I liked the atmosphere and the era-accurate dress that the staff wore. I liked the large bar area and the entire space as a whole. I don't remember details, but I do remember prompt and courteous service. There was a sufficient number of dishes to choose from and I don't recall what I chose, but I remember it being good.... We walked the streets of old New Castle before dining at Jessop's. Nice atmosphere and not too loud. Good service and tasty food. A great break from more crowded areas of Wilmington.

Going to Jessop's is like taking a step back in time. This tavern has been around since the 1700's and has much of the look and feel of an old tavern that the likes of George Washington or Thomas Jefferson may have eaten in. My wife had the pot roast and I had the Shepard's Pie, both portions were huge... More

The waitstaff dress in period costumes. The dining rooms are dark and lit by candles for ambience. If you are in New Castle for the history, then you should eat here. The menu reflects the Dutch, Swedish, and British heritage of the area, plus the availability of local seafood. The beer choices are excellent and include a couple of colonial... More

When first walking in to this restaurant, I felt like I had stepped back in time! The staff are dressed in period clothing, and the restaurant is decorated the same. The food is absolutely wonderful, and they have a tremendous selection of beers that they offer. One of my favorite restaurants by far!

We drove down to historic New Castle with our neighbors and Kathleen, first time for Kathleen. The town is a colonial treasure right on the Delaware River, like a mini-Williamsburg. We loved the architecture and the well preserved houses. It was delightfully quiet without the noise of traffic as we strolled the brick sidewalks. We came for dinner at Jessop's... More

Built in 1674. A business. A home. Now a restaurant/bar. Chicken chowder and flat bread were super delicious. Turkey sandwich was reported as average. Nice atmosphere. Pleasant but leisurely service. Big Belgian beer menu. Close to the river. Clean bathrooms. Street parking. Will revisit.

Good food, fun atmosphere with colonial theme. Wait for food can be a little long on a busy weekend night.

Jessop's does not know whether or not they have a reservations policy. It seems to depend upon whomever is at the front desk. We volunteered for the day at a local event and my husband walked over to make reservations, something he had done last year. This time, he was told they were not taking reservations that particularly day due... More

THe best Fish and Chips you will ever have on the planet!! Just delicious with the cole slaw. The appetizer of Flat Bread was very tasty too. We just had a full day at Old Tyme Old Castle Day looking to grab a quick bite. THis meal and atmosphere fit in with the colonial aspect of our tours from learning... More
