Jessop's does a great job of making you feel like you just stepped back into colonial times (which works especially well in Old New Castle). But they don't stop there. Besides the period costumes, there is the colonial-inspired food, which was great. Only problem was settling on a choice as there were quite a few entrees that sounded delicious. They... More

I visited Jessop's Tavern with a group of 15 in July 2014. Since we were a large group, and were on a schedule, not only did we make a reservation, but we pre-ordered our lunch. It took 20 mins to get our drink order (just water and sodas) and 45 mins to get the food we had pre-ordered. The service... More

Jessop's has an incredible menu for craft and not so easy to find beers of the world. Order up, it may take a few minutes for the friendly staff to locate and dust off your selection but trust me it's worth the wait. The best fish and chips to be had within 50 miles!

My fiancee and I happened to find this place and just entering we felt back in time. 300 years old and still cozy, comfortable. We order the Smorgas brod and the presentation was just delightful. The details from the metal dishes, the waitress' costume and the Nordic music was very beautiful. I would love to give them a 5 star... More

I liked the atmosphere and the era-accurate dress that the staff wore. I liked the large bar area and the entire space as a whole. I don't remember details, but I do remember prompt and courteous service. There was a sufficient number of dishes to choose from and I don't recall what I chose, but I remember it being good.... We walked the streets of old New Castle before dining at Jessop's. Nice atmosphere and not too loud. Good service and tasty food. A great break from more crowded areas of Wilmington.

Going to Jessop's is like taking a step back in time. This tavern has been around since the 1700's and has much of the look and feel of an old tavern that the likes of George Washington or Thomas Jefferson may have eaten in. My wife had the pot roast and I had the Shepard's Pie, both portions were huge... More

The waitstaff dress in period costumes. The dining rooms are dark and lit by candles for ambience. If you are in New Castle for the history, then you should eat here. The menu reflects the Dutch, Swedish, and British heritage of the area, plus the availability of local seafood. The beer choices are excellent and include a couple of colonial... More

When first walking in to this restaurant, I felt like I had stepped back in time! The staff are dressed in period clothing, and the restaurant is decorated the same. The food is absolutely wonderful, and they have a tremendous selection of beers that they offer. One of my favorite restaurants by far!

We drove down to historic New Castle with our neighbors and Kathleen, first time for Kathleen. The town is a colonial treasure right on the Delaware River, like a mini-Williamsburg. We loved the architecture and the well preserved houses. It was delightfully quiet without the noise of traffic as we strolled the brick sidewalks. We came for dinner at Jessop's... More
