What a surprise, definitely worth getting off the highway

Driving from Philly to Baltimore, we found ourselves nearby at the lunch hour. Consulting trip advisor mobile, we got off the highway and were totally surprised. What a charming and lovely town. Full of history, we ended up spending a couple of hours here, and wish we had budgeted more time. A... read more

Fantastic find in quaint colonial New Castle. We were charmed the moment we entered this restaurant for lunch. What an authentic room! The staff was friendly and courteous and made us feel so welcome. Our lunch was great, as were the beers(so many to choose from!). Highly recommend!

Business associates took me to Jessop's Tavern last week for lunch, and both the atmosphere and food were great! I had the daily fresh fish special along with their special seafood chowder soup, and WOW - they were outstanding. I want the chowder recipe!!! The waiter was dressed in Colonial garb, and the service was personal and efficient. If you... More

Really hot day, late afternoon, needing cooling off, what to do? Stop in for Colonial flavour ice cream, choc chip mint, colonial? ... it was darn good though in a Belgian cone. Coffee was good too. Service was sharp and polite from waiting staff dressed in period costume. It's a place I'd like to spend time in but the visit... More

Went there for lunch with my wife. The place supposedly was built in colonial times and it looks it. All waiters and waitresses wear colonial attire. It claims to have the largest selection of Belgian beer in Delaware. Our very courteous waitress asked us what we liked to drink and promptly brought us our orders. Diet coke for her and... More

I've been in bars that specialised in imported beer a few times, but this one is special. First, it's located in an 18th-century building in the Old New Castle Historic district - look in the dictionary under "quaint" and there is a picture of downtown Newcastle. The decor and entire atmosphere is Colonial pub on steroids. Second, there is the... More

Have always wanted to eat here; finally had the opportunity; lunch with my sister. It was 12 Noon (on a Wed.) only one other table seated. We were seated and waited, and waited, and waited. Two more tables were seated.....Still waiting and it was probably 12 minutes or more before our server appeared. She apparently had been in the back... More

Great atmosphere being in old New Castle but the food was just mediocre and I thought it was overpriced for what we got. Would not hurry back there or recommend to my friends.

There was a group of 8 of us and we visited Jessop's Tavern. We all ordered a variety of items. Several tried some of the beers and were impressed. Some of the beer selections did not have prices listed on the menu-- be sure and check since some are not cheap. The chicken fricasee dish was good. The fish and... More

The service was terrific. Our server was very personable & we were very happy with her. The food was mixed, however, The Caesar salad was delicious but the chicken breast sandwich was dry. We waited 35 minutes for our peach cobbler to arrive. I'm sure it was a problem with the kitchen/chef, as our waitress was obviously upset that it... More
