Old Style Tavern

This is in a historic building which is pretty nice. The tables are close together and the place gets crowded. They have a huge selection of Belgian beers- totally worth visiting for that. The food is pretty standard fare. Order the Crab Cakes.

The atmosphere is nice and the building is set up nice and authenic. Seating was tight and food was average. A classic Ruben sandwich shouldn't be messed with by using a pretzel roll and the meat was obviously microwaved and not cut thin enough making it difficult to tear and chew. Beer selection is definately the best in the area.

The setting is in Historic Old New Castle. The tavern takes you on a walk back into Colonial times. Ambience, dress, decor, and music take you back in time. The food is hearty American - such as Shepard's Pie, duck, Pot Pie, Fish and Chips. We have never been disappointed with a meal there. And the beer selection, particularly Belgian,... More

Thanks to reviewers' recommendations, three ladies shared 2 entrees 0f Shepherd's Pie and "Red, White and Blue". We saved a little room for the highly acclaimed Dutch Apple Cakes!!! A tasty and filling dinner, ended the evening with moonlight riverfront walk!! I hold no reservation to pass on the thumbs-up!

Great atmosphere, service and menu selection. Love to stop in for lunch and enjoy a great sandwich and possibly a cold beverage. Always quaint and cozy...although sometimes the seating is a bit too cozy...tables could be better situated for comfort.

First, if you are any kind of History enthusiast you must walk through the town. Original landing spot of William Penn. A walk through history. The tavern was great. Nice atmosphere, servers in period dress, great food. If you are a beer enthusiast you must go. Something like 30 on draft and over 300 bottles. A must go!

We found this Tavern (a list of Belgian beers as long as your arm) by looking in a guide book. It is an old inn in an old setting and even the waitresses are in period costume: floor length skirts and long aprons. The food , however, is modern and veery good Seafarers chowder (red) was hearty and the 3... More

Extremely disappointed....the waiter strongly promoted the shepherd's pie for dinner "hands down" over the turkey...it was drowning in gravy and tasted like alpo...when I asked waiter to clean up the mess on the table, he pushed it off the table onto the floor......very disappointed...and will never return!!!

Driving from Philly to Baltimore, we found ourselves nearby at the lunch hour. Consulting trip advisor mobile, we got off the highway and were totally surprised. What a charming and lovely town. Full of history, we ended up spending a couple of hours here, and wish we had budgeted more time. A colonial gem, this is what old town Alexandria,... More

Fantastic find in quaint colonial New Castle. We were charmed the moment we entered this restaurant for lunch. What an authentic room! The staff was friendly and courteous and made us feel so welcome. Our lunch was great, as were the beers(so many to choose from!). Highly recommend!
