Every once in a while you run into an evening that is so bad it becomes memorable for years after. There are meals where you say "that was not very good" and you move on not having hard feelings towards the establishment. Then there are meals in an establishment that make you say "you have to be kidding me". Anyone... More

Visited the 1861 Restaurant for a late lunch while in Middletown. The meal and atmosphere were excellent and the service was very attentive. After ordering drinks, we ordered the chicken thigh and lamp burger sandwiches. Both came with thick cut fries. Both dishes were prepared very well. Overall we had a relaxing, enjoyable meal and will definitely visit again when... More

Met someone for a date for the first time out here and it was pretty good I have to say. It is a bit obfuscating when it comes to the entrance, but the ambience makes up for the trek of long halls and stairs. Very good beer selection, and the food is unique. I had the Braised Short Rib sandwich... More

If you don't mind waiting 30 minutes for your first drink to arrive or your entree to get to you before your appetizer does, then you will love this place.

The restaurant is very nice and clean..Also very intimate and welcoming..Great bar area and group areas. But don't arrive 10 minutes prior to opening or you will be turned away...

One of the best hidden secrets of Middletown. Service and ambiance is phenomenal. Food is a bit pricey for small town, but well worth it. The bar is unique and well positioned and the restaurant staff is some of the best.

From the chicken and waffles to the spicy wings and lobster Mac and cheese....1861 never disappoints. We have gone or family brunch, romantic dinner and girls nite out and always receive great service and even better food!

1861 will knock your socks off. Tucked away on Broad Street, it is unassuming. The menu has something for everything; ingredients are fresh and each dish has been carefully created. I need to eat gluten-free, and not only does 1861 understand how to keep me safe, but they make jaw-dropping GF (and non-GF) creations. My favorite large plate is gluten-free... More

We heard about 1861 and decided to give it a try on a quiet Sunday evening. What a treat!!! The menu is imaginative, creative and all the food was extremely well executed. The bar is outstanding. The best part is the friendly staff. The bartender and our server, Joe, made us laugh and enjoy the entire experience. Can't wait to... More
