Dinner this evening

We go here a bit, but tonight with my brother and his wife, and my sister and her husband , it was excellent! We all had the "chicken in a basket ". Some had with a baked potato (loaded) and some with fries! It was for all of us some of the best fried chicken we have had in a... read more

Charcoal chef is a great place to have a nice, affordable dinner. The food is fresh, the service is quick and the prices are very reasonable. My grandparents have been taking me here since I was very young and my husband and I still visit once in awhile. The old fashioned ice cream sundaes are the best!

Friendly staff with lots of attention. The food was nothing but just right. Family of 4 dinners and deserts came out to $55. Very reasonable for the food that you get. Recommended the banana cream pie! Wanted to get seconds!

Charcoal Chef was opened in the late 50's. I think they have renovated once- maybe. But, this is a local hangout. There are regulars who eat there weekly. Some staff have been there for a long time (some over 40 years!). And, don't be surprised to see a celebrity once in a while. It's known locally as the place to... More

If you are looking for a diner type place in the area this is it. The clientele is 40+ so don't be too rowdy .. They don't like it. One woman actually walked out. Things to order are fried chicken, fabulous whole belly clams, steak,burgers...surprisingly the trout was outstanding. For desert the hot fudge Sunday's are awesome....I had the strawberry... More

Charcoal Chef is a nearly 60-year old restaurant that in some ways shows its age -- paneling, subdued light, a basic menu that includes grilled ham, pork chops, baked beans and other basic comfort foods. We had the onion rings (decent), a cheeseburger (okay), and grilled ham (very nice), with baked beans, a salad, and slaw. These items were okay,... More

Had dinner here last Saturday night. It is a step back in time. The menu is much like it was 50 years ago (cube steaks, chopped steaks, ham steaks). The charcoal fired grill adds a nice flavor to the meal. Nothing fancy, just decent food with OK service.

Most recently I had their fish and chips and was very pleased. The fish was fresh and well prepared. The service is always pleasant and efficient. For an appetizer I had the fried zucchini with the horseradish sauce which was excellent.

We had a weekend supper with a party of five. This was the best meal we had in Woodbury. Attention was taken for the preparation of all appetizers and entrees. The service was excellent. The adult beverages were strong, but there were no complaints about that.

Haven't been here in 10 years or so and just recently went back...glad we did. The restaurant is kind of homey and reminds me of a family restaurant from the 50's somehow...lots of wood...low ceilings...basic menu (which has been expanded and improved since our last visit). They now have regular dinners on the menu and have expanded sandwich choices. Most... More
