We stopped in for breakfast on November 8, 2014. We were ahead of the breakfast rush but the service was speedy and courteous. Blueberry pancakes were my choice. The three plate sized pancakes arrived hot from the griddle. There were ample blueberries baked into the cakes. The restaurant is adjacent to the north-south Amtrak line that runs between Hartford and... More

Bad accoustics. Tried to get in several times and it was closed so went elsewhere. Lunch one day was just o.k. Nothing special.

I don't understand why there aren't more diners for dinner unless the food doesn't come fast enough, but a little patience will be rewarded with a freshly made meal. I enjoy the option for breakfast all day, but I also love their twists on dinners. The shrimp with the sweet chili sauce is yummy and I appreciated the lovely mashed... More

There is nothing special -- good or bad -- about the Whistlestop, but the service is friendly, the food is serviceable, institutional fare, there is good WiFi most of the time, it is spacious, and it has very large and tidy toilets. Breakfasts are your best bet, and it is served all day. It is a percectly decent place to... More

Good service, clean, but average food. The cinnamon challah French toast was cooked just right but not enough cinnamon flavor. Nice size portion of French toast. Also had the Kielbasa Potato Hash which was bland, no flavor at all. Adding salt and pepper couldn't save it. Forget the Smucker's Breakfast Syrup. Connecticut is part of New England so how about... I have eaten at this restaurant a few times with both friends and business colleagues. The restaurant has a breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu, but they serve breakfast items all day long. This restaurant is typical of New England style diners with the exception that they serve grits with breakfast. I do not see that very often up here. The... More

This is our family preferred local restaurant in Windsor: my grown kids and I meet for lunch on Saturdays...we all have different food and we have our favorite: my oldest daughter likes Turkey BLT, my second daughter either does breakfast or grilled sandwich on GF bread, my son really likes the Train Wreck burger...I like the Philly Cheese-steak. Good eat!

Good, interesting breakfast food, friendly, good staff, nice atmosphere. I take people here from out of town all of the time and they love it. So much better than any chain restaurant.

The Whistle Stop is now located on Union St., with plenty of parking. Excellent coffee, not always hot enough for me. Breakfast entrees are excellent and served promptly.

I have eaten breakfast at the Whistle Stop a few times and each time was great. They offer gluten free bread and are willing to make french toast with the GF bread as well. Other fun options include strawberry milk which takes me back to my childhood, and there is a food challenge should you ever have the desire to... More
