Expect large portions and mediocre but friendly service. The trout was excellent, truly special. The fries are about as good as Five Guys, which means excellent for fast food, not impressive for more expensive dining. I had a special appetizer, which was a pasta dish with oxtail sauce. The flavor was excellent but the pasta was over cooked, on the... More

Always a lively crowd in a cozy setting makes this restaurant a fun and enjoyable visit. Great seasonal menu items, along with a wide selection from sliders to great fish, steaks and specials. Whether you prefer eating in the lounge or dining room, service is always attentive. Would love to see more beer selections, but the lines are limited.

This is one of my wife's and my favorite restaurants. The bar area is casual which is where we like to eat. You can select from the regular dinner menu or the bar menu (little bits). The menu changes seasonally but they keep a select group of items year round. Try the fries and any other dish. They are all... More

Bold statement right? Well, everyone is entitled to their opinion and certainly CT, with it's location wedged between Boston and New York, has no shortage of fantastic high dining experiences. But, since moving to this area in 2005, my wife and I have tried many different restaurants, and this has taken the top spot and remains there. We've been there... More

We have visited her many times before through the years. This was a big celebration for us, however, our time was very disappointing. The menu is very limited, however, we found some nice items on the menu. What was most disappointing was the mediocre service. We had to ask for EVERYTHING. I have to be gluten free and there seemed... More

This has always been our favorite restaurant for special occasions. We were deeply disappointed with a recent visit. I believe the former chef left a couple of years ago, and the current replacement is not up to the task. Our appetizers were tasteless; our main courses were overcooked and lacked imagination. The one saving grace was the desserts, both exquisite.

A trip to coastal Connecticut is not complete without a visit to our favorite place, Café Routier. We dined with another couple last week and the food was better than ever! All four of us had fabulous meals thanks to our waiter who recommended the very best on the menu. My husband said the he had never had better short... More

We have been to Cafe Routier many times. The atmosphere is warm, comfortable, and intimate. We have dined as a couple, with friends, and with family groups. Each time it seemed to be the perfect setting. The food is upscale with standards and always a seasonal menu keeping things interesting. They also have a pub, which is clearly very popular,... More

I have dined at Cafe Routier many times. Each experience has been nothing short of excellent. The food in the dining room is the best on the CT Shoreline and I eat out a lot at all of the "continental" restaurants in the area so should know. Cafe Routier is continental elegance without pretension. The dining room is lovely with... More

Conveniently located very close to our hotel, we enjoyed a delicious dinner with friends from NYC here. One of best meals out anywhere in a long time! We liked it so much that we returned within days to cap off a lovely vacation week in Connecticut.
