rubbery gumbo

I love creole world of food. Having spent two years in New Orleans many years ago. I've been reluctant to try this place because I had a bad experience 4 or 5 years ago. Well, that's two really terrible food experiences now. My gumbo was tough and the sauce was glutenous, like it hadn't been... read more

We were excited to find a restaurant that offered traditional New Orleans cooking. We ordered the Gumbo and Crawfish Bisque, both were very good. The Gumbo had an exceptional Flavor. We had Chicken and Shrimp Jumbalaya and Pan Blackened Chicken Mamou as out entrees. Both were full of flavor and met every expectation we had, The portion size could easily... More

Four of went here after a day of outlet shopping. It was a Monday and the place was empty. We were seated in the lounge and served by the chef/owner. I asked about a dish that I saw online, crawfish alfredo for $10, and was told I had mistaken it for crawfish puff,no I told him, but I wasn't going... More

Awesome waitress Tori served our family of 4. We opted to eat in the lounge but dining area very pretty too. Started with fun Hurricane drinks. The shrimp and crawfish jambalaya was excellent. Also highly recommend the seafood filet! Raspberry blue cheese dressing another favorite. Save room for coffee and chocolate puff pastry for dessert. Also spent time speaking to... More

Brought the family here tonight not knowing how they would like New Orleans style food/cooking. It was a big hit!! From the Salad with a Raspberry Blue Cheese Dressing to the Shrimp and Crawfish Jambalaya to the Seafood Filet Mignon to the NY Strip, dinner was fantastic. The evening was topped off with a chocolate puff pastry with vanilla ice... More

My wife and I recently dined at Creative Cooking in Westbrook Ct, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We opted to sit in the formal New Orleans style dining room which is decorated in a classic period style. Other options for seating include the more casual bar area and the outside front porch. The dinner menu is quite extensive and contains... More

We had a lovely dinner here. The best part was a Thai shrimp appetizer. The meals were quite substantial- we each had a gumbo, one with chicken and one with shrimp, in a bowl with a lot of rice and beans. Very tasty, but the two of us could have shared one main dish. Service was very attentive; nice ambience.

We started coming here on our way home from NYC one week-end. It was late when we got off RTE 95 and started looking for a place to eat, we saw the sign for Creative Cooking and parked. The restaurant has a very nice formal dining area and a decent size bar as we were dressed casually we asked to be... The food and service were excellent. The interior of the restaurant was beautiful, but it was a warm summer night and we decided that an outdoor table on the front porch would be nice, and it was. The Gumbo soup (chicken or seafood -we had both) was outstanding. Don't miss the tomato vinaigrette salad dressing. Main courses were substantial and... More

Went to Creative Cooking after having driven past it many times over the years. Don't know why I never went in, but I do know I'll be back. Went for dinner with my wife and 4 friends. All 6 of us will be returning for more. The Gumbo's both Chicken and Seafood were simply the best. The main courses were... More
