I cannot tell you how many times we have been to the GW. But last night's experience might be the straw that broke the camels back. We had a 7 PM reservation, and the place's back area with a small private party going on was not available, despite many vacant tables. We waited at the bar for 45 minutes. We... More

We had friendly, good service and enjoyed good, wholesome food in a relaxed atmosphere. The apple pie was delicious!

We stopped in for lunch on Columbus Day with a pRty of six. It was the first visit for all at thus lovely restaurant. It was very busy, but there was no wait to be seated. All of the staff was welcoming and friendly. The tomato basil soup was excellent. All the food was served at the perfect temperature by... More

We researched for a restaurant for our tour of New England with some friends from Europe. We decided on GW Tavern for dinner while in Connecticut. We were very pleased upon pulling up to this very quant restaurant in a rural setting. The interior was just as lovely and was a perfect New England tavern. We were seated next to... More

This is bustling, hugely popular tavern with a dedicated clientele. The service is quick, friendly and adds to the ambience. Remember, this is not fine dining, so select basics such as cob salad, hamburgers etc. Although I have not tried it, brunch is popular, particularly during summer months. If you are in the area and want a simple lunch or... More

Columbus Day weekend 2014 - the place was packed on a Sunday- not withstanding that the service and food did not fail to please. The pear salad to the Veal Osso Bucco which was done to perfection was a true treat. Decor and ambiance is exactly what you would expect Revolutionary in a cozy romantic way. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ for the GW

Have eaten here a number of times over the past decade, and have always enjoyed our ourselves. Returned this past Sunday for Brunch after year or so hiatus. Food, service and ambiance were excellent. GW Tavern is a restaurant that has actually improved over the years.

The menu has old favorites and standards and a few surprises. The fare is hearty and flavorful. Try to get a table near the fireplace for some true ambience.

We ate twice here in the summer. Thanks to my son's recommendation. Both times we sat outside but the first time was at the first tier of tables that actually overlooks the garden. This area is quiet and special try to get that if you can. . The main area does not have the outlook and we have found that... More

Warm cozy atmosphere, great and varied menu, excellent service. Had the crab cakes and a craft beer or two...what a wonderful stop thru the Connecticut countryside.
