Indian food at a restaurant for us meant a drive to Norwalk/ Stamford/New Haven. Baingan in Shelton was a discovery for us. Firstly, the restaurant is not part of a strip mall, which in its own way adds to its exclusivity. Once inside it is quite spacious. There is outside seating as well, overlooking the river. Though the menu had... More

Baingan got off to a shaky start - some times the food was good, some times not. BUT lately the food is always fabulous. A must if you like Indian food!

Had delicious, melt-in-your-mouth medium heat goat curry, refreshing cucumber salad ( enough for 2) & their garlic naan is light & flavorful . Came initially to sit outside but their deck is not all that appealing-more attention should be paid to the tables, umbrellas & plantings (none that I saw) but our corner table inside overlooking the river was perfect!... We have been on business for two weeks and this is the best food so far. Don't pass up the bread basket, the naan is amazing. We had a few curries and the dessert was amazing. Work you way through the menu...it's amazing.

We are so happy to have good Indian food in town! They are always so friendly here. The food is yummy. We order a lot of the vegetarian entrees and have never been disappointed. We have not had any problems with spicing, usually we order medium and that's what we get. When we have leftovers wrapped we order extra naan... More

What can I say, Baingan makes you feel right at home when you walk in the door. We have been going to the restaurant almost since it opened. Their staff is always courteous, knowledgeable, and looking out for your best interest. I say that because I attempted to order a "hot" dish and they warned me against it, knowing my... More

I have been coming here since they opened and their food is always really good and the service is great, too! I love the booths in the front two rooms, so cozy and warm in the winter. And, I like the fact that you could sit outside on a nice day in the summer on a pretty good sized deck... More

Frequent this place often because of its proximity. All the foods are great but try their dal (lentil) , lamb chili do piyaza, lamb saag , paneer bhurji, goat curry, papri chat, aloo tikki..yumm..

I definitely consider myself a "foodie" but for years, I would always say that the only ethnicity of food I didn't care for was Indian. This is mainly because I went to places that were not to the caliber of Baingan and I only tried dishes with curry out of ignorance of the other options. My brother and his wife... More

I brought home take-out from here for the first time- I lived in the area for years and I had no idea about this place! It is on River Rd/ Rt 110 just south of where Route 8 crosses the Housatonic River. The food is very good, and you can tell the quality of the food is high. Overall, we... More
