Great restaurant. Excellent, knowledgeable and attentive service. Fresh and delicious healthy local seafood options. The calamari is delicious - lighlty battered with a bit of spice. Creative martini and cocktail list, as well as many wine options to choose from. Wish it was located somewhere with a scenic view - although they do have a patio for outdoor dining.

First, let's start with the service -- it was surprisingly good (I should say excellent). It was clear that there was summer help involved but they were well trained and the primary waiter was very experienced (I observed this for all the tables) and delivered a high quality level of service without it ever feeling intrusive. The dishes were inventive... More

There are lots of restaurants on the shoreline from New Haven to the Connecticut River, but none seem to have as consistently good food at Liv's. While the restaurant has a limited menu, I've found the selections both interesting and sufficiently varied. He has what restaurant fans describe as "tastebuds" and he understand ingredients, how they merge, and preparation. The... More

Each time I travel to Hartford, Ct., my only request is that we take the drive to Old Saybrook to dine at Liv's Oyster Bar. It is one of my favorite places to enjoy seafood and a cocktail. Casual with an understated sophistication. We arrive around 4 or 5 to take advantage of the unadvertised happy hour. Oysters are a... More

My husband ordered the raw clams and we shared the lobster mac n cheese! Both were fantastic. I ordered mussels for an entree and my husband ordered a pasta. My mussels were excellent, but my husbands pasta dish was drowning in the sauce. Overall, the food was great, along with a great atmosphere and great service.

Excellent food, upscale but casual atmosphere. Start with not bread but crispy toasts and olive oil. Spring Pea Soup quite large portion and very delicious, would appreciate offer of fresh cracked pepper although grinder is at table. Oysters the best of course. Burger perfect with large portion of good fries. Crabcake is indeed crabcake, no filler and just plain good.... More

We love to sit at a nice restaurant bar and eat. This one offers lots of great atmosphere and a friendly staff. The bartender Kristen pours a perfect drink every time, and if the conversation gets boring they have a few flat screens to keep your attention. A view to the oyster shucking area is fun and a partial view... More

I will be a somewhat critical of this restaurant afterwards, but let's start with the most important things first. My wife and I had a crab and avocado dip appetizer, and the halibut as a main course. Both were delicious, the halibut was simply perfectly prepared, served on some vegetables and potatoes - and also a nice sized portion. Our... More

We went as a last minute Sunday evening dinner. We made reservations just a couple hours before. We couldn't wait to try this place as it is rated very highly here on Trip Advisor. We actually completely depended on it to find this place. Once again TA came through. The wine we had was excellent and priced in with other... More

We were driving around Old Saybrook and I asked a few different people where we should have dinner. I liked the guy who said he has been living there for 40 years and the best seafood he has had was at Liv's. He could not have been more correct. I started with the Caesar Salad, (large) then the Lobster Roll,(also... More
