Great local Pub

Enjoyed the atmosphere and friendly unrushed staff who during mid- afternoon hours were happy to respond to our numerous questions on Ct. River Valley from where's my Ancestry Research was beginning. The sandwiches are large. Evenings are busy with diners. One of favorites.

Food was decent - great fries. Waitress spilled entire carafe of water on one of our guests, and kept bringing more drinks (soda) without asking. Crab cakes could have been better. Next time I'd stick with a burger or club sandwich. Nice little downtown area.

I had the chopped Cobb salad with a topping of gorgonzola and walnuts, plus blue cheese dressing, and this is simply heaven for a blue cheese lover! Delish!! The waitstaff performs very well, no complaints there - but if you want to hold a conversation, bring a megaphone!!!

Old Saybrook is a great little shoreline town. I've eaten upstairs once but prefer the dark wooden ambiance of the pub. This time we ordered shepherds pie and pulled pork sandwich with sweet potato fries. Lots of good options on the menu but we were interested in a quick bite on a chilly April evening. Great wine list - I... More

A Texas girl by birth I always chase the perfect burger. I need it hand patted, medium rare (some restaurants won't do this), and a varied choice of additions as I don't eat the bun. Penny Lane Pub served a perfect medium rare burger with bacon, that was crisp but not overcooked, carmelized onions and topped with a generous amount... More

Really enjoyed the food at this Pub. I had French onion soup and a chopped cobb salad with Dijon vinaigrette dressing and I ate every bite. The chocolate mousse for dessert was amazing! My friend had fish and chips and said it surpassed expectations. If you prefer a restaurant atmosphere instead of pub style, they have additional seating upstairs. Wait... More

When we got to Red Hen one frigid night recently and found it closed due to a furnace problem, we walked down the block to Penny Lane Pub. We told them we had a performance to make, so they served us promptly. The food was decent -- not particularly special and certainly not innovative, but fresh and done as requested.... More

Dropped into the neighborhood pub after dinner to catch up with some old friends. We told the hostess that we had already dined, just wanted to order drinks, sit and visit a bit. She informed us that we'd have to sit under the amplifier of the singer/guitarist in the bar area. (Really, there was nobody in the place???) We made... More

The atmosphere of this quaint little english pub was great! They have a large menu which seems like it would please just about anyone. Lots of options. The service was great despite being very busy. They have some local beers on tap (we later made a trip to one of them). Cant wait to come back!
