Great neighborhood pub with lots of variety

Casual, friendly setting with good variety - tasty burgers, salads (try with either blackened salmon or steak for your protein fix!), soups etc A solid, standard weekend lunch or supper dining choice. If you want more upscale, try Liv's, Aspen or Fresh Salt (you'll also drop more $$$!)

This is an excellent place for lunch. I had the Penny lane burger and it was delicious. My wife had their grilled chicken salad and she enjoyed it very much. We would eat here again when in the area.

Not sure what has happened - it always was a good standby. The last two times we have been there the service was very slow and the menu is just out-dated. There are other places (Liv's and Cafe Routier) that are better and if you order off of their lounge or happy hour menus it is cheaper than PennyLane.

We had lunch here during Old Saybrook Days. Despite the restaurant's being full, the service was smooth and excellent. The restaurant was cool (88* outside) and cozy. The meals were savory, well beyond usual pub fare. Some gluten free options were available.

For two starving travellers, it was perfect. My granddaughter 's hot dog was falling off her plate, it was so big, and her eyes were falling out of her head! She was delighted it came so fast, as was I. I only had a wedge of lettuce salad with bacon, tomatoes and blue cheese dressing, but it was scrumptious.

Go where the locals go -- but get a reservation for busy times. Lively bar -- much better food than you'd expect in a pub

Great location right on Main St. but I truly have a love/hate relationship with our local "pub". When it's busy, it's so loud that it's distracting. The service is usually very good but sometimes the wait for the food can be very long. There is a nice variety on the menu, pretty much something for everyone including gluten free. However,... The staff at the Saybrook Point Inn and Spa enthusiastically recommended Penny Lane and we immediately saw why. The pub is very low key and has nice sidewalk seating. The staff are friendly and quick. The fish and chips were so fresh and delicious. A great lunch spot.

The food was excellent. The server was great and made good suggestions. I had the tuna salad which was awesome. They have nice tables outside which is great to enjoy outdoor eating. The drinks were good.

I had the opportunity to visit this restaurant twice in a weekend and enjoyed my experience both times. I visited with family for dinner and didn't get to sit outside at the cute tables in front of the restaurant but we enjoyed the upstairs which we were told was quieter than the downstairs, which was correct. Even when several large... More
