This is a terrific Italian restaurant, one of the best on the Connecticut shoreline. Don't be fooled by the unassuming exterior; the food is great. The pizza Napolitan is authentic and the monthly specials like squash flowers, gnocchi, and veal are unlike anything you'll find outside NY or Boston. My favorite: pasta Bolognese.

I lived in the Old Saybrook/Westbrook area over 20 years ago and was a HUGE fan of this hidden gem. Now, whenever I am visiting, I make sure to stop by and always bring a friend or two. The pizza is Italian, thin-crust, real brick oven pizza with FRESH FRESH FRESH ingredients. Bread and olives while you wait and family... More

Taking a break from corned beef and cabbage w/e we stopped in here, busy night but we were seated after a short wait, we both knew what we wanted, Pizza! I love their marguerite pizza and my husband likes the traditional with sausage, they bring a saucer of wonderful olives, bread squares to dip in olive oil while you wait,... More

I have been pleased with both their selection of Italian food as well as other selections. Pizza selections are varied and tasty. Salads are particularly good and fresh. Wine is varied, and there is always a pleasant special.

This was a last minute find. We were driving by and thought we would give it try. The service was excellent and the food was very good. I would return and recommend this ristorante to everyone.

I cannot tell you about the food because we never ordered. In fact we never had the chance to order. This restaurant does not take reservations so we showed up a few minutes early to get a table for 6. It was possible to sit us immediately but this was not done because only 4 of our party of 6... My husband and I went here because I love Italian food and he loves Pizza. HIs pizza was decent but was salty. I thought it was expensive to pay fifteen dollars for a twelve inch pizza with no toppings. There was no mozzarella cheese on top. I ordered what I was told was the lunch portion and only received three... More

I have probably driven by Alforno 100 times and never considered actually eating there. You would just assume it's yet another strip mall pizza place. We are pizza snobs with really high standards so it wasn't until we saw Alforno listed on a list of America's 50 top pizza places that we knew we had to at least try it.... More

Authentic Italian (Sicilian?) cuisine - absolutely delicious food. We arrived 10 minutes before closing on a Monday night and all of the staff were friendly, warm, and welcoming. We had a great mushroom pizza and a delighful Sicilian orange salad plus fried mozzarella - all were delicious. Would love to come back to this place again. Can't recommend it enough.
