Very good Italian food

Alforno is definitely up scale from many of the local Italian establishments. It has fairly serious cuisine, but it also has very good pizza. Located in an innocuous strip mall, it can be overloocked, but it does deliver an excellent product on a very consistent basis.

We go here often as the service is always very good. You know the place is good when you see the same wait staff month after month. The food is always good. They provide olives as a snack while you are waiting on your meal to come, along with some bread. We really enjoy this place.

On a quiet weekday, we were seated right next to the open kiychen. Sangria, squid, salad and traditional pizza were promptly and artfully prepared. Fresh baked bread, olives, oil and cheese served with old world charm by the attentive waiter set the tone for a very refreshing dining experience. My husband and I will return here. We thoroughly enjoyed it... More

After a number of dining experiences at this restaurant, we have concluded that prices are a bit high in comparison to what one gets. The salads are not particularly out of the ordinary but the least expensive is still $7 plus. Ceaser salad is $9 plus. I recently had the lasagna, it was good, but a fairly small to medium... More

My husband and I have eaten at this restaurant many, many times since they opened in 1991. We went tonite and arrived at 7:30pm. We stood at the reception desk for about 10 minutes before we were greeted, even though several employees stopped by the desk while we stood there. After we were seated, we waitted a few more minutes... More

Sat at bar, was completely ignored for 15 minutes. There were two bartenders. One finally came over and asked us what we wanted, and didn't even apologize for the wait. Took another 10 min for our drinks until she came back and took our order for food. The bartender rolled her eyes at me when I asked for bread (that... More

Our pizzas were Outstanding! Our dining experience began with fresh baked sliced bread dipped in fine EVOO with a spiced green olive plate. We decided on the Napolitana, made with special flour from Italy, a tomato sauce that was pleasantly sweet with fresh sliced basil, a hint of cheese, but so subtle to concentrate on that crust and sauce. We... More

My wife & her mother & I decided last minute to go out to dinner tonight at Alforno's. We've eating there many times in the past but this time we were confronted with very very slow service. Apparently some servers didn't show so that left one server eating on ten tables by himself. He apologized for the long wait. The... More

We are here for a weeks vacation and trying a new eatery each night. What a wonderful evening we had at Alforno! Claude (our server) quickly brought over several starters including fresh baked bread, seasoned dough bites, and olives. We tried their famous pizza which were slices of perfection and the the home made lasagne....OMG!!! Delicious ! We eat at... More

For over 10 years when anyone would ask me for a restaurant recommendation in Old Saybrook, without hesitation I would answer Alforno. However the last three times I have been to Alforno for dinner we have been disappointed. Veal Parm was overcooked and the bottom was burnt. The tagliatelle bolognese sauce was dry and sparse. My favorite salad is no... More
