A classic.

We always eat at Johnny Ad's when we are either passing through Old Saybrook on our way to the Cape or when we are in the area and have a hankering for a classic drive-in meal. They have the most amazing shakes! Their clam strips are standard but not greasy. I enjoyed the hot lobster on lettuce... read more

Every time I go there, I'm always amazed when I taste the food again! They always have everything perfectly cooked and the service is great! Their milkshakes are creamy and thick and their seafood is to die for, I would definitely recommend eating here. (Try the clam-strips or the fried scallops)

heard great reviews of this place from a lot of people so we decided to give it s shot. It was lunch, I got a hot lobster roll and my husband got the crabmeat patty. We split fries. That with water was $30 which I wouldn't have minded but the servings were quite small for the price and type of... More

I ordered the soft shell crab roll for lunch and it was delicious...lightly breaded and not greasy. This was the first time I'd visited Johnny Ad's so I didn't know it was cash-only...otherwise I would have made sure to come with more cash and would have ordered a side as well. (there is an ATM inside but I didn't want... More

Being a regular on the Shoreline, we have been going to Johnny Ad's for years now! Our most recent visit was borderline poor, the whole belly clam plate was extremely small and tasted terrible! The Hot Dogs were tasty as usual and the service was rushed...not many smiles from the staff anymore! Sorry to say this place has really gone... More

Growing up on the shoreline, our family ate here regularly during the summer months. I recently had an opportunity to revisit Johnny Ad's after a two decade hiatus. So much in the area has changed, but Johnny Ad's appears to have pretty much stayed the same (there's a large wall mounted television now, but it was thankfully not intrusive). We... More

We are locals who give this place another shot every couple of years. The owner happens to be a good guy. Big Mistake. Food gets worse and more expensive every visit. Clam Bellies were 90% strips and 10% partial bellies deep fried in old oil. Could have done better at BJs Wholesale Club

Visited the restaurant once before and was not thrilled. Visited again with my two sons for lunch. Friendly staff... But it ends there. Lobster roll tasted fishy and was tough(frozen and put on grill?) for all three of ours. Chowder was thick but also fishy tasting. Price of 17.oo for a roll is steep. We could not finish our meal... Was passing through the area and wanted some local sea food. Found this place.Large selection to choose from. Seemed to be a local hang out. Food was fantastic. Cash only no credit cards. I will stop here again my next time through.

We've been going to this great little take out place for years. Unfortunately it has not been very good the last few years. Scallop roll, whole belly clam roll are just average. Gave up on the fries long time ago. Completely tasteless. However, the onion rings are wonderful. As far as the lobster roll, go across the street to the... More
