Sally's and Pepe's made New Haven famous for Neapolitan Apizza. For years people fought over which one was better and for decades I could not make up my mind which I liked best. Today that decision is very easy to make. Sally's hands down. Still the original founding family with the same quality food and pride in their product. It... More

Haven't had Sally's in quite some time but my husband & I decided to give it a try. It was even better than we had remembered. I had the Poor Man's Pie and it was cooked perfectly and the sauce has such a great flavor. Every bite got better than the next. Not much in the way of atmosphere and... More

Indifferent and sometimes rude staff, dirty restroom is the size of a phone booth and opens up to the kitchen, limited menu. Reservations are not allowed so many times you are waiting in line outside. As you are waiting, regular customers will show up, pass the line and be seated immediately. I don't care. The minute one of these pies... More

After seeing Sally's and Frank's on a food channel, we figure we'd that a trek to Wooster street to try the pizzeria's of a family competition. My opinion is Sally's pizza had better flavor and held its ingredients on better. Sally's had a crisper texture, some in my family thought a little to crisp. It depends on your taste, then... More

Not what it use to be... It use to be one if the 3 top pizza places in New Haven... But a shadow of its former glory... Service and the pies were fair at best... Our mozz and sausage pizza was over covered with a thick layer of tomato sauce with little taste and our clam pizza was obvious canned... More

Waited in line for almost an hour before we left. We went there knowing the wait would be long, but the indifference from the staff/owner is unbelievable. Apparently they do not take reservations, but people were showing up and being seated immediately. No apologies, no "we are sorry for the wait", nothing! This seems to be a New Haven mentality... It seems that Frank Pepe's has won the battle of the reviewers, and, on a quiet weekday night, it resulted in a thirty minute waiting line. Just down the street, at Sally's Apizza (it's "apizza" in Anew Haven") it was "sit whereva' you like." Sally's is an unpretentious neighborhood place that lookes little changed since the 1950s. And why change?... More

i've been going to Sally's since I was 5 and my Dad would take me in the back to look at the pizza oven. Sally's pizza became one of my comfort foods. Was there this past Saturday and I can say Sal and Flo are looking down and proud that the pizza is still as awesome as it ever was.... More

It has always been close competition between Sally's and Pepe's Pizza. As a New Yorker, I never thought that anything would ever come close until I moved to New Haven where I have found the best pizza by far that anyone could ever ask for. In addition to the above mentioned places, Modern Apizza is another fantastic place to enjoy... More

We walked right in, sat down and instantly the waiter was there getting our drinks, handing out menus. A couple of minutes later, we ordered and foolishly thought we'd get our food in a reasonable amount of time - Wrong. We waited and waited and waited. No other contact from server until just before the pizza came out an hour... More
