Terrific Food, Very, Very, Very Slow Service

Many wonderful options for a light lunch, including creative vegetarian ones. Many tables require a party of four. Important not to be in a rush, because service seems so, so slow. Unfortunately, we were on a limited conference break, so eating became rushed.

Once you've found the perfect coffee shop, lunch spot, dinner place, why risk going anywhere else? Sandwiches were lovely, soup amazing, coffee perfect, and breakfast? I'm about to find out.

Being a book lover this was just great. The only thing that could have improved it would be for the book shelves to move along every 15 minutes so you could read the covers and spines of different ones throughout the meal. Food was good too.

The food we ate was stale, the coffee was ok but the bookshop is well worth supporting (when there is a barnes and noble around the corner).

Fantastic coffee and service. Their bread looked amazing so I took home a loaf of pecan & cranberry. Superb artisan break. Toasts up wonderfully. Treat yourself. You're worth it.

After a 5 to 20 minute wait we were seated. Ordering was relatively quick and food appeared in a reasonable period of time. We enjoyed black bean soup and roasted red pepper soup with feta. Both were delicious. The club sandwich (huge) as well as the butternut and kale open faced sandwich were also very good. The only negative was... More

Great soups, bread and baked goods in an easily accessible downtown location. And then, there are the books! A wonderful place to get lost for a few hours.

Often crowded and busy, but still worth the wait and congestion. Centrally located and near (actually under) one world class Art Museum (British Art Museum) and directly across from another (Yale Art Gallery). Be seated at the counter or one of the cafe tables. It is inside a very nice bookstore with a friendly waitstaff. The black bean soup is... More

We took refuge here for breakfast on a cold wet morning in November. Very cosy with a nice atmosphere. Lovely fresh food and good coffee. The only slight negative was the length of time it took to get our food, glad we weren't in a rush.

I stop every morning for my breakfast treats, and it is my go-to bookstore in New Haven. If I want to order either a book or music, I always do so through Atticus rather than buying through mega-Amazon. Most people probably don't know that you can order CDs through Atticus. Mostly I love the atmosphere, and the smells.
