Casual yet Elegant

Fine dining in a beautiful 1700's home turned into a restaurant and auberge. All the food I have ever eaten here was first class and the wine selection is also very good. Always the best choice to take mom and dad, out-of-town guests, a date or just for something more than the usual casual fare... read more

A group of six of us had dinner after my daughter graduated from UConn. We arrived a few minutes early, were seated right away and ordered drinks. Very nice, well kept B&B. Limited menu but what they had was appealing. They forgot one of our pre-dinner salads and were slow to serve this person. Surf and Turf and stuffed shrimp... More

We had a perfect meal to top our perfect day. Our son graduated from UConn today, Mother's Day, and many family members were joining us. A friend recommended the Altnaveigh Inn and said the restaurant is nearby in a lovely historic setting, and the food is delicious. The owner, Gail, couldn't have been more accommodating when I called in January... More

We visited Altnaveigh for my birthday dinner. I had a VERY good Cosmo to start...which has been hit or miss since I moved to CT. We had the artichoke hearts for a starter which were okay. They lacked a bit of flavor. But I had the scallops mad my husband had the veal. Both were fantastic! Our son had the... More

We returned to this historic Inn and Restaurant after 30 years. What a delightful homecoming! The Inn looks better than ever and the food was simply delicious. The entrees (a filet mignon and a seafood special) were top notch, and the prices reasonable (no entree above $30). The wait staff was attentive without being intrusive. The owners are a couple,... To anyone reading this review please understand I did extensive research to arrive at choosing the Altnaveigh Inn as the location to take my girlfriend for our 2nd anniversary. I must stress how important a quality detailed review from someone who has taken the time to really take in the establishment where they are dining in all it has to... More

My wife and I dined at the Altnaveigh Restaurant last Saturday night for the first time and were thoroughly impressed. From the warm welcome through a top notch dining/culinary experience, we will be sure to come more often. The menu has something to offer for all palettes and all items are very reasonable, especially for the quality of the food.... More

WE ate there for new year's eve and it was wonderful, so when our friends asked us where I wanted to go for my birthday, I told them Altnaveigh and we did no two Saturday's ago. As usual the owner was extremely cordial and pleasant and you certainly got the impression on entering that this was "her baby" and that... More

We eat here about twice a year and the food is always the best. Great ambiance but I do agree with some of the other posts that the service is lacking a bit. Got our salads and appetizers in a timely fashion but then waited 35 minutes for the main course. Think the waitress forgot about us. Not a big... More

We ate here several months ago and looked forward to our return. This time around didn't go nearly as well. Service was extremely slow, we went well beyond a "leisurely pace" to "ok I'm ready to go." I feel bad saying it because everyone was friendly. But how behind can the kitchen be? The food didn't dazzle us like last... More
