Shady Glen opened in 1948, and it's a safe bet it has changed little since then. While I have bemoaned such lack of updating and upgrading in other restaurant reviews, I celebrate it in the case of this charming burger and ice cream spot. Burgers are small (I could have easily downed four of them) but lean and cooked to... More

The cheese hamburgers and hotdogs create memories as I have found the fried cheese no where else in the USA. It is a delight to eat here as it represents the small business man that left a mark in history, with a lot of flavor. Their ice cream is phenomenal with hard to find flavors that include: blueberry, rum raisin,... More

Discovered this little local gem yesterday for breakfast. A bit of retro vibe with fast service and very friendly waitstaff. Food was great and very reasonably priced. They do not accept credit cards but they do have an ATM inside for convenience. Much better option for breakfast than nearby Denny's. I would definitely go back for breakfast. Would love to... More

Shady Glen is a Manchester institution, and we've gone there for 25+ years. The ice cream is excellent and the milk shakes are thick and delicious. The cheeseburgers, with the "burned" edges, are unique. There are places that have much better burgers (Corey's Catsup and Mustard in Manchester and Plan B in Glastonbury come to mind), but the tradition, family... More

Shady Glen (SG) is a Manchester landmark with great ice cream and decent food. However, people rave over its hamburgs that have an over sized slice of cheese on it that is 'burned' on the grill. To me, the food is average and its expensive. If you are OK with franchised fast-food, then you will probably be OK with the... More

I love their breakfast's with the fried cheese. Their cheeseburgers are wonderful. Of course their ice cream is unbeatable. My husband loves their milkshakes. They are made the old fashioned way.

We go to Manchester CT once or twice a year to visit very close friends. It is a very quaint New England town close to Hartford. Shady Glen is an old fashioned place with great grilled cheese and milkshakes. Locals have been going here for decades.
