Though the bookstore is small and just average for an independent bookstore, the little café serves delicious lunches, made with high-quality ingredients and care. There are many items on the menu. The seating area is small, so there can be a little wait, but at least there is something to look at in the store. This will always be my... More

The bookstore alone is worth the trip. Old fashioned ambiance and run by serious readers. Loved the reviews posted by the staff. Now for the food. Tucked away in back of the bookstore a tiny restaurant with interesting takes on lunch fare. We had a sensational flat bread veggie pizza with olives and capers, a salad with frisée, pears, good... RJ Julia's is an amazing independent bookstore but not every visitor sees its little cafe that has a lovely patio. Of course, it overlooks a parking lot but so do several other coffee shops. The coffee is good, food is fresh and service is efficient and friendly. Noboby is rushed so there can be a wait for a table. It's... More

Food is always fresh and tasty. Service very friendly. I love this place. The only problem is it's not big enough!

It can be tough to nab a seat here, with good reason. This cozy coffee shop in a bookstore is a wonderful place to eat, read, and meet with friends. The food is very good - hearty sandwiches, fresh salads and rich soups - and the desserts are sublime. It took me about ten minutes of staring at the cupcakes... More

Located in the back of RJ Julia a great bookstore, The bistro is a great stop for coffee that is better than the big chain down the street as well as the best cupcakes in town. In addition for Lightfare such as eggs and quiche it is a great choice. It is a cute place very clean and the servers... More

Cool hidden cafe gem In a great Indy bookstore. Nice people. Good for a quick bite of pastry and coffee or tea as you like it

The food is delicious, the atmosphere is relaxed and lovely. I had a sweet pepper and smoked Gouda soup with a half of sandwich. It was fresh and delicious. We also had the eggnog latte which is a must for a cold day!

I spend quite a bit of time along the shore in CT, and this is one of three places that I wish I could pack up in my bag and take with me to Chicago. Their sandwiches are delicious, the atmosphere is warm and lively, and the servers are polite and friendly. I don't usually partake in the desserts and... More

My friends and I tried this little cafe for lunch during our brief vacation in Madison. The white albacore tuna and the salads were so delicious that we returned another day for an early dinner. The food is made to order. The turkey panini was amazing as a light dinner option. Hot and crispy with turkey, bacon and artichoke spread.... More
