Consistently good food and service

I have been there twice in the past few weeks: once at the bar for a great happy hour bargain, and once for dinner. Both times the food and service was really good! The only improvement I'd make is the dinner salad. It seems to be prepared ahead of time and is nothing special. Other than that... read more

Whether you're in the bar, enjoying one of their $6.00 specials (with purchase of a glass of wine) or eating in the restaurant, the food is always delicious. Just walking in, it always smells great. I went for my birthday. When I was too full for dessert, I was given a small bottle of champagne to take home to celebrate.... More

Food and service were superb, although the waiting time between courses was a bit lengthy. Unnoticed fine print states that salad and side vegetables come with entrée. Would definitely return.

Oysters on 1/2 shell tasted as if the oyster had been rinsed in water after being shucked....yuk! No salty flavor, the juice just tasted like tap water...eeeww. Either that or they were shucked in the morning and ice was poured on top to chill... just as gross. I was going to give 2-stars but i decided to be more generous... More

We used to frequent Café Allegre about 10 yrs ago and stopped returning as we always found something wrong with our meals. After a 2 yr hiatus, we decided to give it another try and now we recall why we stopped going. Everything about the food was marginal. The house dressing on the salad was just ok. Both my husband... We make a lot of trips back and forth to Cape Cod to visit the grandchildren, and we always try to stop at a different restaurant in Connecticut on the return trip. We were expecting a lot of traffic back to NY on the Sunday eve of Thanksgiving weekend, so we planned a stop in Madison to break it up... More

We ended up here after a movie next door, so we were not expecting a special occasion meal. Nonetheless, that's what we got. The service was warm and friendly, not snobbish as some reviewers mentioned. The food was amazing--we both ordered specials--filet mignon au poivre and John Dory fish--which came with bread and saladsAnd the prices seemed quite reasonable give... More

I hope your hungry? From appetizers to dinner you won't have room for dessert! At Cafe Allegre not only will you have a wonderful meal, the service is excellent! According to my husband, the broccoli rabe and sausage is to die for!

We have dined at Cafe Allegre several times. My husband is much more of a fan than I am. The service is generally good but the menu is quite limited. The food is very overpriced and the restaurant has a "stuffy air" to it. It's as though they are charging the prices simply because they are located in Madison- not... More

I am so sorry you feel this way! The food I choose is of the highest quality, and we go to great strides to hand-pick top of the line meats, seafood and fresh vegetables. I buy what is in season to ensure freshness as well. Our dinners range in prices and you can get meals for two for under $50,... More

Over priced..... No one bothered to ask why I didn't eat my shrimp appetizer... It wasnt de-veined.... And that totally grosses me out. They put salad dressing on the salad without asking if you want it.... And then don't bother to come back & ask why you didn't touch it. As alway, I go with the lobster/pasta choice. I was... More
