Terrific family, local restauant

Portions are hearty, home cooked, and ambience is warm and welcoming, especially in the bar area. Parking can be a problem but there is street parking as well.

We were in New Haven area and wanted to watch play off Patriots \ Ravens game. We sat at the bar and were pleased with beer selection. I had a pint of Harp and my fiancee a pint of Guinness. Food was great, Shepard's pie and potato skins stuffed with corn beef. Crowd was friendly and we saw the Patriots... More

We found this place when our son started his freshman year at Quinnipiac University. He loves corned beef and cabbage and it was the best! Then my husband and I went there for happy hour two years later and were very happy with the buffet and casual atmosphere. We went back with my son and his friend this year for... More

I was hesitant when we pulled up because it looked more like a bar than a restaurant and I didn't know if we would be comfortable but was I wrong. From the moment we entered we were wowed by the welcoming restaurant. The service was fantastic. The menu was diverse enough to satisfy everyone's taste. The prices were very reasonable.... More

My favorite place for a satisfying family brunch or a pleasant drink with friends. I've liked everything I've eaten here over several visits. The service is excellent, really friendly. The late night atmosphere is noisy enough to be fun but quiet enough that our table could converse easily.

Went for dinner with my husband mid-week, our first time here. We are big fans of Irish pubs and we went for the classics--Guinness stew and shepards pie. They were excellent! The place was quite busy considering it was the middle of the week (although they were running a special for 2 that was an excellent value so perhaps people... More

We went for dinner. I had the Guinness Stew and my wife had a corned beef sandwich. My dish was very tasty, lots of meat and I finished off the gravy after the meat and veggies were gone. The sandwich was good, but the fries were somewhat greasy. I had a pint of Guinness, which was served COLD, a no-no... More

I've been to the Playwright about three or four times now; once on a date, once during St.Patrick's Day, and a couple of times just because. Each time I've been the food was very good, the service has always been excellent, and the atmosphere has been fun. The burgers are really good, as are the fish and chips, and the... More

My husband and I enjoyed a late lunch on a Saturday. We were the only customers in the dining room, so it was quiet. There were customers on the patio and in the bar area. We had an order of the onion rings, which were listed on the menu as beer-battered, but the coating, which was crisp and not greasy,... More
