My favorite place for a satisfying family brunch or a pleasant drink with friends. I've liked everything I've eaten here over several visits. The service is excellent, really friendly. The late night atmosphere is noisy enough to be fun but quiet enough that our table could converse easily.

Went for dinner with my husband mid-week, our first time here. We are big fans of Irish pubs and we went for the classics--Guinness stew and shepards pie. They were excellent! The place was quite busy considering it was the middle of the week (although they were running a special for 2 that was an excellent value so perhaps people... More

We went for dinner. I had the Guinness Stew and my wife had a corned beef sandwich. My dish was very tasty, lots of meat and I finished off the gravy after the meat and veggies were gone. The sandwich was good, but the fries were somewhat greasy. I had a pint of Guinness, which was served COLD, a no-no... More

I've been to the Playwright about three or four times now; once on a date, once during St.Patrick's Day, and a couple of times just because. Each time I've been the food was very good, the service has always been excellent, and the atmosphere has been fun. The burgers are really good, as are the fish and chips, and the... More

My husband and I enjoyed a late lunch on a Saturday. We were the only customers in the dining room, so it was quiet. There were customers on the patio and in the bar area. We had an order of the onion rings, which were listed on the menu as beer-battered, but the coating, which was crisp and not greasy,... More

I love the Playwright. Great comfort food. I have eaten there for over a decade as my office is directly across the street. The tuna melt is always great( ask for a side of curry sauce), great burgers, wings too. The Irish dishes are great. The service is always outstanding and you are always greeted by a smiling face.

The Playwright offers a variety of food including several irsh dishes. You can get a very good burger and fries here or other "comfort" food, but if you have a hankering for sheperd's pie or bangers and mash this is the place in Hamden to get it. The smoked salmon is very good.

I am an admitted regular at this establishment. They have a 98% "got it just right rate" by me. Only rarely do they miss. The waitresses are friendly, courteous and thoughtful. The barmen the same. The food especially their Guiness Stew, Sherherds Pie, Chicken Pot Pie, Burgers, Pork Loin special, Pork Chops and soups are delicious and plentiful. And yes... More

We like to have a late afternoon meal or after a matinee at the Shubert or movie theater. many times a group of musicians are playing Irish music when we arrive which is a bonus. Love the stew and their choice of beers is always a challenge for making a choice. Always seem to have to take home part of... More

The Playwright Irish Pub Restaurant is an experience. It is an authentic Irish Pub/Restaurant complete with Irish music live or recorded. The live traditional sessions are every Sunday at 4 PM and every Tuesday 8 PM. There are also live singers/groups on Friday and Saturday evenings. The staff is very friendly and the food is excellent. If you wan an... More
