Unique and fun but overrated and overpriced

Fun experience and good lobster; great corn and clams. The prices, however, are ridiculous given that they're providing near nothing. Sit on sliced tree limbs or stumps. Outdoor eating. Watch them cook the food on giant firepits in the center of the place. Again, very unique. Wonderful corn... read more

During the 1970s, while visiting my cousins in Guilford, The Place was the place to go. It was good! The steamers, the grilled corn, the lobster - everything was good. That was then. However - when my Guilford cousin's daughter, a resident of Germany, visited, I recommended The Place. I've been living that recommendation down for months now. The service... More

The Place is not your typical restaurant. Everything is cooked outdoors over open fire and customers sit around the outdoor kitchen on stumps. The menu is simple but well executed and with a seafood focus. The grilled corn, bathed in butter, and the roasted clams were highlights. Byob, but bring a bottle and enjoy toasted lobsters with friends.

"The Place" is by far my favorite restaurant in the area. Outdoor facility with tree stumps for seating around handmade tables. Simple, fresh seafood cooked on the huge outdoor grill that is stoked with long, large pieces of firewood. Menu offers: lobster, clams, shrimp, salmon, bluefish, catfish, Etc. The roasted corn is to die for!!! BYOB and bring your own... More

The Place is only open during the summer, and everything is cooked on an enormous barbecue outside. The lobster in particular is excellent. They provide the meat and fish, corn on the cob and a limited range of puddings. You bring everything else, salads, bread, potatoes etc and alcohol. You sit on tree stumps in the open air. It is... What a wonderful dinner this was. My husband saw this place on the cooking channel. And it was GREAT. What a wonderful relaxing evening our family had. We ordered the whole lobster, steak, clams, shrimp, corn on the cob. Everything was cooked on a open fire. It was delicious! And you sit on tree stumps. I would love to go... More

The food is great, portions a little on the small side. Everything is A la carte so it can be very expensive. Has a wonderful rustic ambiance, tree stumps for seats and wire spools for tables.
