If you've ever wanted to experience "al fresco" dining, this is The Place. Decent food, extremely casual, completely outdoors. Seating is provided by tree blocks surrounding old cable reels, lighting by strung construction lamps. Steaks, clams, fish, and chicken cooked on open fire grates highlight the menu. The food is OK, but the atmosphere sells this seasonal restaurant.

Depends on weather since it's an outdoor restaurant. I'm not a fan of a bug filled dinner and on a hot evening, you will have uninvited guests. Otherwise, food is good, but expensive

My husband remembered this place as the place he had the BEST CORN OF HIS LIFE, so he insisted we go back last year. I had only eaten there two or three times in my life because of the non-credit-card stance and what I consider high prices...I have always gone with friends who wanted to go there. Well, I ordered... you sit on stumps eat off rickety tables and have to bring your own alcohol and the foods ok. But that's just fine.it's an outdoor rustic semi guilford tradition restaurant. it's a fun place to go with friends who aren't expecting the world and just want to have a uniquecasual dining experience. I have been there numerous times over the... More

This was my first time here. It was a good experience. My kids enjoyed it. My wife didn't enjoy it but she is real picky. The whole experience was very unique. I would definitely would go back if in the area. You can bring your own drinks. That is a plus. I wouldn't go later in the afternoon when the... More

I have been going to The Place since 1978 and I'm a true local. I don't mind putting my rump on their stumps! The experience is reliably wonderful. Never had a bad ear of corn or a less-than-scrumptious clam special. Just be sure to BYOB and some bread to salad if u need it. Have a special event there and... More

At The Place you sit outside on stumps around red topped tables and watch the food cook on the open fire. It's a relaxed fresh air experience. The clams come straight off the fire on a piping hot grill that's placed on a stand at the center of your table. Yum! Started by a local math teacher in the 70s... More

Since 1971, we have been enjoying this unique restaurant on Route one. Everything is grilled on an open-pit grill... Scrumptious corn on the cob like you,ve never tasted before; clams, steamers, lobster, shrimp, blue fish, salmon, chicken and rib-eye steak to name a few of the items. We had a party of 12 people sitting around a large round table... More

I REALLY hope the owners read these because THE PLACE could be great. As far as atmosphere you really can't beat it on a spring or summer day with a large family. You can bring your own sides and is byob. But seriousily....in this day and age it is SIMPLE to season a steak (there was no rub on it)... More
