Since 1971, we have been enjoying this unique restaurant on Route one. Everything is grilled on an open-pit grill... Scrumptious corn on the cob like you,ve never tasted before; clams, steamers, lobster, shrimp, blue fish, salmon, chicken and rib-eye steak to name a few of the items. We had a party of 12 people sitting around a large round table... More

I REALLY hope the owners read these because THE PLACE could be great. As far as atmosphere you really can't beat it on a spring or summer day with a large family. You can bring your own sides and is byob. But seriousily....in this day and age it is SIMPLE to season a steak (there was no rub on it)... More

Used to be much better food and atmosphere. Now, charm gone as you sit on a tree stump eating horribly overpriced food across from Walmart. If they want to keep this place going they need to move and get competitive with their pricing. Yes you can BYOB, you kind of have to forget what you are paying! Want to keep... More

This unique outdoor restaurant is more than that...it's an experience. Seated on tree stumps at cute red tables--totally outside--and in the evenings, lit by the fire of the pit where the food is cooked. Nothing else like it! The atmosphere is one of a kind. The food is good! The Roasted Clam Special is full of flavor and smoky goodness--be... More

I have been going to The Place for years and always looked forward to it a great gathering spot to go with a big group of people and the food was always great ...until this visit what a disappointment. The atmosphere is still great and fun place with friends to put your rump on a stump - bring your own... More

My wife and I had the roasted clams special, mussels in wine and garlic, and a roasted lobster. The clams came open faced with a red cocktail sauce already on them - they had no smokiness from the wood fire, were chewy, had no "sea" flavor - that is no briny taste. The mussels must have been boiled in plain... More

We make several trips to Guilford and The Place every summer. The food is great, the service is outstanding, and it's fun to sit outdoors on stumps. On our last trip, we ordered 4 roasted corns, several dozen of the "special" clams, a rib eye steak, a veggiebob, and a bluefish. The corn was perfectly roasted, and the clams were... More

An experience like having a clam bake in a friend's backyard, "The Place" is a must try. Heard about it from a friend and was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere of outdoor dining, the very long outdoor grilling station and the smell of smoke, clams, chicken, lobster, corn and shrimp. BYOB, and bring your own sides as well, however the... More

We were there tonight for dinner we ordered salmon, bluefish, lobster, veggiebob and corn. Bluefish was really good, my picky 4 year old daughter eat everything in her plate. Normally she doesn't eat anything other than chicken or pasta. Salmon was good, too. They cook it in the foil with some lemon sliced on top. It was juicy and delicious.y... More

We were up in Guilford for the day so decided to try this quaint outdoor restaurant that the NY Times had written up. It was a beautiful day, so the prospect of dining outdoors was appealing. The novelty quickly wore off as we waited over 45 minutes for our food. I should add that the waitress came to our table... More
