My wife and I as well as our family and friends have been going to J Gilbert's for special occasions for many years. The food and service has always been excellent. Last Thursday my wife and I went to use her birthday coupon and while her meal was excellent as usual I decided to change my usual fare (the 6oz... More

Visited as part of a large party celebrating a birthday. Had a fantastic meal delivered by attentive and responsive wait staff. Food was consistently good from apps to mains to desserts. We had a party of about 30 and there was not a single concern or complaint. This was an excellent location for a special event.

J Gilbert's has long been regarded as a go-to place in the area for a good steak dinner, but its main attraction for us is its very much above-average happy hour. Specials are offered from a separate menu Sunday - Friday, 4:00 - 6:30 pm.; a more generous time span than usual. Drink deals include $5/glass house wines, $1-off drafts,... More

Pretty much the highest scale restaurant in this CT area. Does cost more than the usual but everyone needs to have a special night once in a while. Food is great along with the presentation and wait staff, not hovering but seem to know when you want them. Bar area is a more lively area - good happy hour, older... More

Wonderful attentive service. Dinner a delight on the pallet. Appetizer, the Calimari had to be sent back. Too tough to chew, no taste. The entree's were a delight. My husbands rack of lamb melted in our mouths, the sides perfect. My dinner was also very tasty and well presented. The Brussels sprouts a delicious burst of flavors. I could have... More

this used to be a destination, but the last few times i've been there, the food had that "reheated" been sitting around feel. the service was solicitous but impersonal. hot things not so hot. meat overcooked. no dish seemed to have a crisp separate taste, it was all one amalgamated blur. that may seem vague but it's the impression that... Took friends to J. Gilbert's and everyone loved it! We mostly had the filet mignon with other items ... scallops, crabcake, etc. Great food and service. We'll be back!

Fabulous food. The salmon rillete is the perfect appetizer. The steaks are always cooked as ordered ( I like rare and sometimes that is hard to get). I have never had a bad meal there. The staff is friendly. I just wish my favorite wine there, the Viognier, was available by the glass.
