I like a restaurant that grills calamari. Fried calamari is boring. Fried cardboard dipped in sauce would be good, so why ruin good calamari to frying? Martel, like any quality eatery, grills it, and grilled it to perfection. It was sooo good. My wife's salmon was delicious as well. A nice basket of fresh pastries to start our semi-brunch/lunch, and... More

We went to Martel last night with another couple and didn't really know what to expect. The reviews were good but I am a little skittish about French food. I immediately think snails, duck, and stuffy. None of this was the case. This place was lively and fun. The food was great and had everything from Chicken to Pasta with... More

Once again Martel shines! For Restaurant Week the chef at Martel offered dishes unlike those on his regular menu. Each item was beautifully executed and full of complex flavors that do not overwhelm your senses. The unique combinations worked well together, and each bite left you wanting for more. The quality to price ratio was excellent, and you won't do... More

We went there today for an unplanned birthday lunch out and found it to be totally enjoyable. Opted to take advantage of the prix fix lunch. We chose Caesar salad and clams in a delicious broth and house salad and French onion soup. Finished it off by sharing a delicious apple tart with vanilla ice cream. Staff was very pleasant,... While not usually a fan of French food this place was simple and inventive. Fabulous meatloaf and my wife had an outstanding fish dish ( I could have just drunk the sauce).some nights oysters, clams or shrimp are a buck a piece between 4-6. The oysters were great. Place is casual and has the feeing of being in a small village... More

We love this place. Everyone we ever take there loves this place. Have not ever had a bad meal here. The chef's specials are usually winners...love many things on the eclectic menu. Small but cozy space, lovely artwork! Great wait staff, have nothing negative to say about this place! Try it if you like good food!

This was my first visit to Martel, and I wonder what made me wait so long! I had been to Marty Levine's very first restaurant in this space many years ago, Breakaway, and very much enjoyed the food there. I had read the glowing reviews of Martel in the Connecticut Post restaurant reviews; however, my Better Half and I remained... More

What a disappointment! Took forever to be seated even though tables were open. Took forever to get waited on and to get our food. Food was mediocre at best. Lobster sandwich tasted stale and rubbery. Seasonings were awful. Prices way too high for quality of food and service.

We recently broke up an 11-hour drive from New Hampshire to Washington DC with brunch at Martel. The décor and food were ideal. The artwork created an informal but stylish atmosphere. My omelet was hot and flavorful. The beignets and cappuccino were delicious. The staff was attentive and our party of five talking heads was able to converse freely with... More
