Always good food and lively atmosphere

We eat here frequently with friends. The bar is very attractive and the food is always good. We normally sit in the back. It's a fun restaurant. One of the best local places to dine. A little noisy but most people love that now.

We wanted to join a couple of friends after an Art Show at the Public Library and chose this restaurant based on other's recommendations and favorable comments. We were a little concerned when we walked in as the restaurant was busy and people were waiting for a table at the bar or in the dining room. (They don't take reservations.)... More

We come here frequently and think it's the best in town. As close as you are going to get to New York French. The French onion soup is better than we had on recent trip to Paris. The drinks are large and all the food is delicious at fair prices.

The host was the RUDEST man I have ever encountered. My husband and I had an 8:30 pm dinner reservation. We arrived on time and were told it would be a few minutes. After 15 minutes and with 6 tables for 2 open, we asked when we might expect to sit down. He retorted that it would be 5-10 minutes... More

The food was amazing but the atmosphere killed it. The tables are crammed so tightly next to one another that it almost feels claustrophobic ..

Martel has a lively bar scene, but it's up front, so the dining area doesn't have the noise level we hate. The service is excellent and there is broad scope to the menu. The ambiance is lovely, with local art featured. Save room for dessert. The beignets are to die for. Best outside New Orleans.

I met friends who were driving from Boston to DC--we needed a location w/ easy access for them on 95. I drove from Ridgefield. A friend alerted me to this gem. Nice cozy place--it was Sunday around 1 pm and I was lucky to grab a small table just inside the bar area. The size of the bar is quite... More

We went there for the Fairfield Restaurant week. I had the mushroom ravioli and my wife had a burger (not on the restaurant week menu, just the regular one). On the upside my wife's drink was great. I had beer. My starter was the oysters Rockefeller. Just three oysters. Nothing to write home about. The ravioli was in a cream... More

The dining experience at Martel is indeed civilized and intimate. Its small size belies the scope of its cuisine; the menu ranges from a superlative burger to an unusual treatment of escargot. The staff goes out of its way to make the diner feel welcome, and regulars are treated as valued friends. Physically, Martel recalls a French bistro. There are... More

They are not cutting edge nor do they pretend to be, but the food is consistently great, prices are in line and everything clicks. Try the frisee salad with crispy bacon lardons, sautéed trout, bistro burger, smoked salmon & celery root pancake or the divine coconut cake. Bread comes from Balthazar in new york city - so it doesn't get... More
