Woodward House was once a private home, back in the late 1700's and it retains many of the rooms of that time. Each dining room seats possibly 12 so there is a country house feel about the place. We discovered this place tonight. We've heard good things about it and people weren't lying. It's a very beautiful environment with delicious, well prepared food. Their menu seemed slightly limited but we had no problem finding something to eat. And it was GOOD!!!! Slightly pricey but worth it.

Woodward House has changed over the years, and all for the better. Their menu now focuses on the most popular past dishes, with home-grown vegetables and herbs. A Prix fixe menu is available, as are several "bistro type" items, making Woodward House affordable any time. Owner Adele Johnson has always been an outstanding chef in her own right, and the... Love! My husband & I are frequent customers of the Woodward house. The owner, Adele, is such a sweetheart. She is always around to greet, serve & chat with us. If you are looking for a unique & charming experience you must visit this restaurant. A romantic setting with top notch service. The entree selections are limited but hands down... More

The Woodward House is a hidden treasure. I was able to try several appetizers all of which were lovingly prepared and very delicious! The steak entree was cooked to perfection and the mashed potatoes were sublime. The suggested wine paired exceptionally well with the meal. I did not save room for dessert :-(. I will definitely visit this restaurant again!... More

I was just there over Labor Day weekend and had fantastic service and a wonderful meal - Sophie was our server, another young fellow attended as well...and the chef herself came out to personally check in twice. The veal was great- super crispy panko outside, and juicy inside - amazing. Been to Adele's several times, and its always been super... More

8 of us went here last night (8/28/14) we made the reservation earlier in the week. Such a shame to ruin such a nice historic restaurant with simply terribly service . We arrived at 6:30 and were still not served our main course at 8:30. Besides us there were only 6 other people in the restaurant. I knew it was... More

Enjoyed a Sunday evening visit and had ourselves a fine meal. Tried 4 appetizers and 2 entrees and well pleased with all. We used a resturant .com coupon and did not have use of the Prix Fix. Nevertheless ample choice that tested your willingness to experiment . The Duck spring roll excellent, crab cake very good ,the scallop pasta excellent,... More

We have spent weekends in Litchfield county for 20 years and we do not cook so we are familiar with most of the eateries in the area. The quantity and quality has greatly improved over time but we think Woodward House is unique. Adele, the owner, is always there to greet and to attend to the dining rooms. The dining... More

I have been to Woodward House often and have never been disappointed. The owner Adele and the staff are very attentive. The food is creative and perfectly prepared, with options for all tastes. The Pre-fix menu makes it affordable for frequent dining. I especially love the historic old tavern home that has an unexpectedly colorful décor and artwork!
