We loved our food at this place. Hard to find . Esp at night the sign should be out nearer the road or bigger. We ate outside. inside was tight esp since I am in a wheelchair... The food was just grand . The spatzle were great . Just the way mom use to make... We loved the food. I... More

This was not my first visit to Old Heildelberg but it will be my last. This place was once very, very good. I don't know what happened. The potato pancakes were terrible. Any German restaurant that can't do potato pancakes has a problem. The sauerbraten was lacking any flavor and the jager snitzel was lacking in every aspect. Sorry to... More

We eat in Germany quite a bit. We like good German food. Heidelberg's food was simply okay. The sauerbraten wasn't cooked traditionally, although it had a pleasing flavor (just not like sauerbraten should be). The spaetzle was a bit rubbery and somehow did not taste quite right either. The kasespaetzel was bland, really bland. The schnitzel was tough. The carrot... More

The wife and I went to the Old Heidelberg Resturant today for lunch. The meals were one of the best that we have had. We started with potato pancakes and cucumber salad for starters. Wow were they delicious. The wife ordered Jager snitzel with spatzel and red cabbage, it was enough to feed 2 to 3 people. She said that... More

Food was overpriced for how good it was (spaetzle was bland, meat was too salty, schnitzek was dry). But the service is really why the 2 stars and not 3. Very slow. Ridiculously slow. Dinner should not be a 3.5 hour event in a place like this.... Reservations are not accepted for the weekends, which is, but then don't seat... More

I've been here many, many times over the years, going back to when it was known as Helga's. For the past several years this has been where we celebrated my birthday. My birthday fell on a Tuesday this year and I made a reservation for six for dinner. When we got to the restaurant the hostess informed us that they... More

Never again. Prices are jacked up, no service, $7 beer in a plastic cup, not nearly enough seating, restaurant closed-porta-potties only, awful parking lot, one small tent with no view of the band, band lacked any connection to the audience. I too am a regular traveler to Germany. This is not how Octoberfest is done.

Good, authentic German food is hard to find, and this place does not disappoint. Having traveled in Germany a few times and having two family members who are German expats, we can be a tough crowd. The beer selections are awesome, many you haven't even heard of before even for those who consider themselves beer aficionados. In spring through early... More

My family and I have eaten here several times. We commute between boston and NYC weekly and look for great places to eat to break up the trip. This is one of our favorites. It has such a homey warm feel. Servers are very friendly and the food is outstanding. True German fare.
