Good food, OK service

I think this is the best restaurant in Walsenburg. I had the prime rib special and it was very good. The only drawback from the meal was that our waitress seemed a bit overwhelmed by the number of tables she had. That said, I will definitely return the next time we're in town!

been there many times. service and food quality is absolutely 'inconsistent'. had reservations this new years eve and was escorted to the 'non-reserved' area. prime rib was tough and over-cooked. staff forgot to serve the shrimp appetizer (frozen shrimp) and the waitress showed up after our meal with them. the owner definitely treats some customers better than others, based upon... Chef Max has created a lovely, reasonably priced, delicious dining experience in an old hotel. The menu has many intriguing offerings: I had the pecan-crusted trout over a bed of wild rice, my husband had fried shrimp, we both had the excellent lightly sautéed narrow strips of zucchini and carrots with tiny curlicues of fried plantain on top. Since when... More

Walsenburg has always interested me. It is between most destinations and not known for the place to stop for dinner. Now I know better. There are a few good stops for breakfast, lunch or dinner in town. La Plaza Restaurant excels. The restaurant looks like a standard old hotel place to eat. The menu was not extensive which I often... Had a relaxing dinner, not rushed, good food, good wine, service was excellent and the dessert was a great way to end the meal. Always enjoy my time there.

I didn't expect too much from this place from the outside, and happily the food was better than I hoped. The menu wasn't extensive when we were there -- choice of 2 appetizers and maybe 6 or 7 entrees. I've had better chicken fried steak, but my total bill was only $20, so it seemed very reasonable. The dinner salad... More

Was taken to this restaurant by my son, and I have to say its amazing. We both ordered the hamburgers which were huge, and tasty. Our meal started with warm bread and butter, a salad, followed by our burgers and sweet potato fries. Everything was served fast, fresh, and with a warm welcoming smile. The staff was very inviting, and... More

My husband and I were there this week and the dinner salad was the best I've had with blue cheese and blue cheese crumbles! I had the trout and my husband had chicken fried steak which a lady had suggested to us. Vegetables were delicious. Another couple had coconut cream pie which we would have loved but will just have... More

On our trip to Denver, we stopped in Walsenburg for a quick lunch. We had no idea where we were going, but turned down an interesting street lined with older buildings. The hotel has been converted to a B&B and the restaurant survived to feed the guests. There are lots of artifacts from the past in the dining room. Connie... More

La Plaza is a Bed and Breakfast Historical building. There is the restaurant on the first floor. I love to have lunch here when I am in Walsenburg. The hamburgers are delicious!!! Very tasty.
