Good German/Austrian fare, Vail prices

Nice and intimate setting, good German/Austrian food and attentive service. The lunch (served until 4 p.m.) has much better prices than dinner; and enough to offer; worth it -- for Vail standards. They also have some non-German dishes like a good appetizer fondue, escargots, and tiramisu.

There was no hostess at all we had a reservation and when we arrived there was no one to sit us, we stayed there just standing and a waiter saw us and guided us to our table and then we waited again for a waiter or waitress to approach which took about 10 minutes, then the waiter's service was really... GREAT selection of beers. Several sizes from which to choose! Porch is "happening" and a great place to people watch. Apres ski hangout gets crowded and the staff gets overwhelmed. On a busy day, be prepared to WAIT! It IS, however, worth the wait. Authentic cuisine and atmosphere transports you from Vail to Germany in a heartbeat!

The Alpenrose is a top spot to experience Vail's scenery and immerse in the "Alps" atmosphere of Colorado. Its old world charm, menu and bakery makes this restaurant a favorite of ours when we ski Vail each winter. Our family celebrated a special event here this Christmas season and we had a five star dinner with each of us savoring... More

Alpenrose is located very close to a bus stop, so getting there is quite easy--if you pass the huge metal moose, you've gone too far! if you enjoy a more peaceful dining environment, request seating upstairs away from the bar area. Our server was very friendly, attentive, and accommodating. We ordered the büdnerteller (charcuterie board), split pea soup, osso buco,... More

Three adults and two children had a very nice meal here. A large variety of options to suit everyone's tastes. Good children's menu. Very nice wine list with German and Austrian whites represented well. Fair prices for Vail. Negative was the beer menu on which most of the draught beers were not available and switched out without something verbally explained.... More

I have often enjoyed the Alpenrose...especially dining out on the deck during the summer months. However, tonight we had a disappointing experience. Our waiter, Brian, was quite inattentive. He failed to fill water glasses; removed plates without asking if we were finished; did not offer desert; misrepresented the types of beers on tap. The mens' bathroom was decidedly NOT German... Dinner with wife while visiting Vail, CO. Atmosphere was German ski lodge (as you would expect) and it was very cozy. We were seated upstairs and it was very accommodating for a romantic dinner. The service was great and the food was equally satisfying. My initial filet came out over done but the staff made it right immediately. The second... More

Alpenrose is one of those Vail institutions that just keeps on keeping on. We ate there fairly early on a Saturday evening, and the place was packed throughout the evening. The menu is mostly standard German/Austrian fare that you can find in a number of places in Vail, and the food is generally pretty good. The food presentation is stuck... More
