From the creators of the legendary Sweet Basil in Vail Colorado, comes a fresh, innovative new restaurant. Aptly named Mountain Standard, this rustic and relaxed tavern aims to set a new standard in the Vail valley by using an ancient form of cooking. The majority of Mountain Standard’s menu is prepared via the most primal cooking method: over an open and live wood fire. The only restaurant in the valley to devote themselves to this age-old way of cooking, the food at this exciting new restaurant has rustic, bold and honest flavors, focusing on the purest ingredients in the Rocky Mountain region and beyond.Service, like the cuisine, has that perfect balance of providing a first class dining experience with a more casual vibe. There is no smoke and mirrors here – no fuss – just simple, honest, from the heart service and cooking. The beauty of the creek side location is mirrored by the high energy vibe of this dynamic restaurant. It is this energy, outstanding service, and hand crafted food that enables Mountain Standard to offer a truly unique dining experience, approachable and enjoyable to everyone.

Enjoyed The Food

Nice choices on the menu, well-executed modern American with a few twists. Decent prices. Small but well-chosen wine list. Slow service, though. Busy because a lot of other places were closed.

We had one of the best dinners in town. Varied dishes from seafood to meat. Martinis were great, specially after a long day at the slopes.

We arrived right at their shift change, so initially there was some confusion and we sat for a while before being greeted by a server. Once the staff noticed they came by and corrected it quickly. We ended up sharing oysters, small plates, soup and salad, and a desert. All the small plates were great, we really liked the mushrooms.... More

We had dinner for 9 here last week and it was excellent. The appetizers were very good (I highly recommend the animal crackers - they are excellent and delicious. I had never had pig ear before, but I'd go back just for that). The steaks were perfectly cooked (medium or medium rare depending on the preference of the person). Service... More

My husband and I ate dinner here while on vacation and it was our favorite restaurant in Vail. Our server was friendly and attentive, but not intrusive. A local brewery was offering a beer flight and we decided to try it. This added a little more fun to the traditional beer order and it is always nice to try new... More

One of the first things I noticed when we walked in was the wide open window into the bright kitchen, where your food was being prepared. it says, "we are proud of what's going on in here and we want to share it with you!" - and I love love love that. Everything about the decor was unique and noticeable.... More

I had the trout and my wife had the chicken and both were very good. My children ordered the lamp which was undercooked. Ordered medium and it came out very rare. They took it back and cooked it some more but now it was too tough to chew. They could tell it wasn't right and with out even asking they... More

The food is excellent. The service was spot on, not overbearing, helpful and understated. Cocktails were on par with the food and service. The menu was fresh and inventive. This is a good restaurant in any locale, but in Vail it's exceptional. I would definitely eat here again, if I could book a table. Do plan ahead, we booked a... More

Vail can be expensive and good and expensive and excellent. Mountain Standard is really not that expensive for Vail standards, or mountain town prices. They offer a menu of smaller portions that are affordable and satisfying for most budgets. I ate in the bar area and sampled some decadent (read not so healthy) fare--like homemade cheese dip with BACON jam... More
