A place for the hungry. The thirsty. The legendary. Some people actually think the Wright Brothers perfected human flight. Around here, we all know better. Carl Howelsen turned Steamboat into a playground, skis into wings, and mustaches into an art form. His adventurous spirit is our inspiration - and Carl’s Tavern is a place for adventurous spirits to call home. Here, the hospitality is genuine, the beer is cold, and the food is made from scratch. So come as you are, make yourself at home, and share a few of your own legendary stories. Just don’t try to one-up Carl; you’ll hurt yourself.

Fun Night!

We enjoyed our second trip to Carl's during our annual ski trip to Steamboat. Great service, great drinks and great comfort food (kids especially loved). We'll be back next year!

This place was recommended by "locals" and lived up to our expectations! The Steaks were supreme and the staff/service top notch. The kids finished their meal with hot cookies and milk! Our best dinner during our stay in Steamboat was definitely Carl's Tavern! The kids even requested a return visit and we had lunch there too!

This is a great pub whether you want a drink or two or a meal. I had a pot roast which must have had over three quarters of a pound of lovely beef, served on mash potato. It is a huge place with the bar in the centre surrounded by tables and booths. The food was excellent and the service... More

If you like, friendly people and great food go to Carl's. Loved our meals so much, we returned two days later. I absolutely loved the Potroast, and had yummy leftovers.

The food and service are always good. The bar is always packed with locals and the place is always up beat. Reservations are easy on Open Table and are a good idea during ski season.

The food and drinks here are pretty good but the prices are on the expensive side. The service is usually pretty good.

Our family of four was able to walk in and be seated right away for dinner during a busy ski weekend. We planned ahead a bit and went on the early side since we didn't have a reservation. If you want to eat right at 7pm or have a group (more than four people), I recommend making a reservation, especially... More

We went for a quick lunch on a recommendation and liked it. We chose simple sandwiches which were great value. Waitstaff were polite and attentive. 'nuff said.

Good food, wine and beer, great atmosphere and friendly staff. We went twice during our stay in Steamboat Springs and enjoyed both visits.

this place consistently delivers, great service, great food, great drinks!! the specialty cocktails are always a winner!! many try to make "specialty cocktail" but few achieve the wonderful conconctions we all crave, with fresh muddled fruits and herbs and just the right amount of kick!! carl's takes it all the way! the ribs were fabulous and paired with an amazing...
