A place for the hungry. The thirsty. The legendary. Some people actually think the Wright Brothers perfected human flight. Around here, we all know better. Carl Howelsen turned Steamboat into a playground, skis into wings, and mustaches into an art form. His adventurous spirit is our inspiration - and Carl’s Tavern is a place for adventurous spirits to call home. Here, the hospitality is genuine, the beer is cold, and the food is made from scratch. So come as you are, make yourself at home, and share a few of your own legendary stories. Just don’t try to one-up Carl; you’ll hurt yourself.

Good food

Very cool place to eat. Parking took a bit to find. We went in an off season so parking was not bad. Service was awesome. Food was fast and delish.

Never even made it to dinner. Host stated it'd be about an hour wait and they'd text when table ready. In 20 minutes, they text and say table is ready...excited! Show up in 7 minutes and they say a bigger group showed up and all tables were taken (even though tables open). Then told us it'd be another hour...really? Bad... More

I wasn't sure what to expect, but my friends and coworkers kept raving about this place. I was expecting "bar food" and was I ever wrong. Our party of 4 each had a different cut of steak or fish and were very, very pleased. We also ordered several of the sides and shared them amongst all of us. We were... More

The sparse amount of meat in the reuben sandwich was extremely tough and unpleasantly spicy, the sandwich had only a hint of sauerkraut. The server was nowhere to be found when we discovered the unpleasant taste of the reuben, only to show up to plop the check on the table as he noticed we did not even touch the heap... More

Menu: has something for everyone. I focused on the meat and was not disappointed. Service: friendly and helpful. Price: well priced, especially for a ski area. Future Plan: try their specialty drink: a Manhattan.

Food was pretty good and a nice selection of Colorado beers. Service was good. I had the ribs and they were fine with a spicy chipotle BBQ sauce, not as good as traditional smoked ribs, but fine for something different. Mac and cheese was good.

A different restaurant was in this location the last time we were in Steamboat so Carl's was new to us. What a great surprise! The portions are big, service was fast, and the food was awesome. We will definitely go back.

Carl's is one of our favorites when visiting Steamboat. They have a great selection on the menu as well as a variety of good beers on tap!

The food here is good everyone enjoyed and nothing had to be sent back. This has the feel of a chain restaurant.
