Description: A place for the hungry. The thirsty. The legendary. Some people actually think the Wright Brothers perfected human flight. Around here, we all know better. Carl Howelsen turned Steamboat into a playground, skis into wings, and mustaches into an art form. His adventurous spirit is our inspiration - and Carl’s Tavern is a place for adventurous spirits to call home. Here, the hospitality is genuine, the beer is cold, and the food is made from scratch. So come as you are, make yourself at home, and share a few of your own legendary stories. Just don’t try to one-up Carl; you’ll hurt yourself.

Great place to eat, drink, and be merry! We had a group of 12 and everyone was happy with his or her meal! Very enjoyable experience. Causal, busy with everything you want for a lively night out! It must be appealing because I saw all ages, couples, families and groups like ours. Carl stopped by to thank us for coming!... More

This restaurant was recommended by a local and we were excited to try it out. The meal started off on the wrong foot due to our table being located directly under the heat vent, making our table unbearably hot. We mentioned to the waitress and she just said there was nothing they could do. The meal from there was fine,... More

The four of us went to Carl's Tavern after a very bad experience at another restaurant where we really could eat the food. It was a Wednesday evening about 8:30 and Carl's was packed. we found 3 seats at the bar and one patron got up and moved so we could have four seats together, very nice gesture. The bartenders... A block off Main St in downtown Steamboat. Large bar area in the center of the restaurant, so it's a louder restaurant. Was seated at the Oyster Bar, which was great because it meant a 5 minute wait versus the 45 minute wait were were told for a table. Our server was plenty nice, but not the most amazing server... I had good references on this restaurant, so my family and I decided to try it out for lunch. We were there right as they opened for lunch. We order the "Mother-in-Law" hamburger and the Pot Roast. The hamburger is served with caramelized onions, but they forgot to mentioned that they were from last evening and just re-heated. The so... More

We were a large group and the server wanted nothing to do with us. She was skilled, but had an attitude about everything. The food and drinks were all good. A bit overpriced though. Don't get the chicken fried steak... Several in our group had it and the gravy was runny and the meat really thin. Other than that everyone... More

This is such a great place to have dinner. Burgers are awesome as is the Sunday chicken (especially on Sunday). Brownie desert definitely worth the calories. The vibe is very chill and wait service super friendly - thanks Rachel! Love the beer selection. Love the architecture of the place. Love the fact they do Open Table. Go there and you won't... More

Love Carl's! We eat here every time we are in Steamboat. I'd recommend reservations since it is always busy. It has a great bar but also great seating around. You have good views of the Yampa and Howelsen Hill. The food is a cross between comfort food and gastro pub. We love the crispy brussel sprouts.

As a foodie with a discernable palate I was intrigued by the reviews here on a tavern, I just had to try it. Upon my vacation arrival in Steamboat my party of 4 had a reservation for 8pm. We arrived to a packed / restaurant bar. Standing room only around the bar at least 2 deep. What could be the... More

Carl's was a nice place with a bar and plenty of seating. It had a pool table and shuffle board table in the back. They take reservations which I would recommend. It's a good place for families singles, or couples. It's noisy but nice atmosphere. They have a nice menu and the service was average. They were out of a... More
