A place for the hungry. The thirsty. The legendary. Some people actually think the Wright Brothers perfected human flight. Around here, we all know better. Carl Howelsen turned Steamboat into a playground, skis into wings, and mustaches into an art form. His adventurous spirit is our inspiration - and Carl’s Tavern is a place for adventurous spirits to call home. Here, the hospitality is genuine, the beer is cold, and the food is made from scratch. So come as you are, make yourself at home, and share a few of your own legendary stories. Just don’t try to one-up Carl; you’ll hurt yourself.

Meat lovers welcome

Menu: has something for everyone. I focused on the meat and was not disappointed. Service: friendly and helpful. Price: well priced, especially for a ski area. Future Plan: try their specialty drink: a Manhattan.

Food was pretty good and a nice selection of Colorado beers. Service was good. I had the ribs and they were fine with a spicy chipotle BBQ sauce, not as good as traditional smoked ribs, but fine for something different. Mac and cheese was good.

A different restaurant was in this location the last time we were in Steamboat so Carl's was new to us. What a great surprise! The portions are big, service was fast, and the food was awesome. We will definitely go back.

Carl's is one of our favorites when visiting Steamboat. They have a great selection on the menu as well as a variety of good beers on tap!

The food here is good everyone enjoyed and nothing had to be sent back. This has the feel of a chain restaurant.

I won't write a long review but I'll say this. The Brussel sprouts were amazing, the grilled artichoke tasted right out of the BBQ. The greatest wings in North America can be found here and they serve 90 Schilling my favorite beer. The two lamb chop dish some other reviewer complained about was bountiful. Carl's is unique and home cooked,... More

Overall the dining experience was good. My adult daughters Mason jar water glass broke as soon as she picked it up. The table across from us had the same thing happen. Might be time for new water glasses. I felt it was a bit overpriced, compared with our other dining experiences in Steamboat Springs Colorado. I had the French Onion... More

Pub atmosphere. My wife and I got a salmon special that was WAY too expensive for what it was. A piece of salmon, wrapped in prosciutto and set on top of a salad. The kids got chicken fried steak, it wasn't bad. Service was good.

This was our family's second visit to Carl's. If you look at my previous review, I gave Carl's an excellent rating for our first visit. Our second visit was not as positive. We visited Carl's with our family during spring break. While our opening round of drinks was just fine, the onion rings we ordered as an appetizer were way... More
