Description: A place for the hungry. The thirsty. The legendary. Some people actually think the Wright Brothers perfected human flight. Around here, we all know better. Carl Howelsen turned Steamboat into a playground, skis into wings, and mustaches into an art form. His adventurous spirit is our inspiration - and Carl’s Tavern is a place for adventurous spirits to call home. Here, the hospitality is genuine, the beer is cold, and the food is made from scratch. So come as you are, make yourself at home, and share a few of your own legendary stories. Just don’t try to one-up Carl; you’ll hurt yourself.

Our 1st visit we ended up sitting at the bar due to an extended wait for a table (and received excellent service). This time my wife and I sat in the dining room, and it's just as loud as the bar area, so we had to talk loud across the table in order to be heard. Once again, the food... More

Great local place to eat in downtown area. Salmon entrée was excellent. Expect a bit of noise as it seems to be a gathering place for sports watching on the many TVs around the restaurant

Get the pot roast or the meatloaf and split it! Start off with the deviled eggs, and don't ask the hostess about the meat dishes, they are vegetarian. Good food and see if Luara can be your server.

Menu was a bit limited, but the food and service was good. The back room smelled like a college bar. Shuffleboard, pool table and juke box in the backroom were available for a fee.

We stopped here for a nice mean on a long mountain drive. The Mother-in-law burger was fantastic. 6 out of 5. The meals my kids had were fairly expensive for what they got. My wife didn't find health food options that she liked so she was disappointed & my daughter's burger wasn't great. The waitress seemed to lose interest when... More

I found this restaurant on Trip Advisor and since my husband loves all kinds of comfort food we decided to try it. First of all, this restaurant (which has a great bar) is very busy so I would strongly suggest making a reservation which you can do through Open Table. We arrived for our 7:00 p.m. reservation and were seated... More

Friendly staff and good food and Menu-Yampa St location just off downtown Steamboat springs.. Relaxed atmosphere...Local's hang here as well as visitors. 'Carl' is Carl Howelsen a Norwegian ski pioneer in Steamboat springs and the original ski mountain is named for him.

This is a must do in Steamboat. The bar here is very well done with great modern rustic feel. Iconic local ski and outdoor art adorn the walls with locals and tourists gathering together. Good beer selection and awesome bar service. Well done!

This was a weird experience. We arrived at 2pm and there were tons of tables free, but according to the hostess there were none that had been cleared. So what did she do? Clean a two top behind her stand and seat us there. So we sat and read the menu (so, so typically overpriced bar menu but this is... More

Carl's was a great place for a drink but i wouldn't recommend eating the food. We were told that it was a 2 hour wait for a table to dine so we sat at the bar. We had a bottle of wine and a couple of the guys had a few of the local beers. All drinks were good but... More
