Description: A place for the hungry. The thirsty. The legendary. Some people actually think the Wright Brothers perfected human flight. Around here, we all know better. Carl Howelsen turned Steamboat into a playground, skis into wings, and mustaches into an art form. His adventurous spirit is our inspiration - and Carl’s Tavern is a place for adventurous spirits to call home. Here, the hospitality is genuine, the beer is cold, and the food is made from scratch. So come as you are, make yourself at home, and share a few of your own legendary stories. Just don’t try to one-up Carl; you’ll hurt yourself.

Friendly staff and good food and Menu-Yampa St location just off downtown Steamboat springs.. Relaxed atmosphere...Local's hang here as well as visitors. 'Carl' is Carl Howelsen a Norwegian ski pioneer in Steamboat springs and the original ski mountain is named for him.

This is a must do in Steamboat. The bar here is very well done with great modern rustic feel. Iconic local ski and outdoor art adorn the walls with locals and tourists gathering together. Good beer selection and awesome bar service. Well done!

This was a weird experience. We arrived at 2pm and there were tons of tables free, but according to the hostess there were none that had been cleared. So what did she do? Clean a two top behind her stand and seat us there. So we sat and read the menu (so, so typically overpriced bar menu but this is... More

Carl's was a great place for a drink but i wouldn't recommend eating the food. We were told that it was a 2 hour wait for a table to dine so we sat at the bar. We had a bottle of wine and a couple of the guys had a few of the local beers. All drinks were good but... More

Visited at 4:30 on a summer Tuesday. Bar crowded w happy hr drunks but sat outside which is nice. Cornbread appetizer was pretty bland and kids meals were as well. BBQ pork was decent but not a $15 sandwich. My wife's cocktail was $10. Started to rain so ended up inside with the drunks I wouldn't recommend it for young... More

Had a great dinner here. The variety is superb. We had the best dry rubbed chicken wings. Others had burgers and great Ceasar salad. On top if that I had a phenomenal vegetarian plate.

Great family restaurant in Steamboat. Awesome cold draught beer and the best burgers and wings in town. Friendly and fast service! We'll be back here on our next ski trip to the Boat...

The reviews say it's frequented by locals, and it is. One sitting next to me at the bar advised me to stick to their burgers and sandwiches rather than going for a (pricier) entree, and I did and was most pleased with the burger and salad I ended up with. Good selection of beers, featuring local ones. Lively atmosphere but... More

Very unique local place to eat, food is good, good service, rustic surroundings but can get noisy around the bar area.

The food was excellent! The service was excellent! The atmosphere was comfortable with a clear view of the kitchen for extra entertainment. We will return.
