From Esther to Esther: Your Pie was Ethereal

Imagine plump, sweet cherries in a subtle, fruity sauce. Imagine the flakiest pie crust you have ever tasted, buttery crisp and delicious. This is what Esther baked for us yesterday morning and left still steaming on the counter for us to pick up as we drove home from Denver to Durango. The 4th... read more

We stumbled on this little gem while on a recent business trip. The food was delicious, and the homemade pie was 'over-the-top'!

My two sisters and I were driving back to Denver area from Durango a couple of years ago and we stopped at the 4th Street Diner. We have talked about it ever since because it was such a delightful experience. Wonderful home made food and a very pleasant cheerful atmosphere. We adored the staff! We are planning to stop again... My wife and I often travel through Saguache when going from our home near Durango to visit our grandkids (and their parents) in Louisville, CO. We used to pack a picnic lunch and stop at the park in Saguache. Now that we have found the 4th street diner the picnic lunches are a thing of the pass. This a nice,... More

My sister and I were driving to Santa Fe on a lazy Sunday when we decided to stop in Saguache. We stumbled upon this wonderful little diner and had an amazing 'taste of home' meal. Everything is fresh and made daily including the wonderful desserts. The entire experience was like stepping back in time to the 1950's. My sister and... More

On the drive back to Denver from Durango we were looking for a place to stop for dinner. It was the first Saturday evening of the New Year and we knew our choices were few. Google located this diner from a simple search and we placed the call. Esther answered but said that they had closed at 3:00 and that... More

We had stayed overnight in del Norte, but there was nothing open for breakfast before 7 or 8:00, and we were out on the road before that. (We don't consider gas stations to be restaurants.) We saw a sign at Saguache and thought we would check it out. Their menu emphasized fresh, local, homemade meals and we knew we had... More

If you are anywhere in the area, visit 4th Street Diner. The Potato Soup is really good and has additional vegetables in it - wish I had another bowl tonight! However, save room for the Peach pie and some of those huge yummy cookies too. The pastry is so good, it will remind you of Grandma's kitchen....that good! Lots of... More

Stopped in for breakfast at the Diner. Good atmosphere, nice paintings on the wall. Ordered a green chili omelet and toast. One bite and I knew it was the best green chili ever, and I am fussy about such things! I ended up asking (begging?) to buy a quart of the green chili to take home, which I did. Will... More
