Good, Idiosyncratic brewery!

I'm so sorry that I found this place on the last day that I left. This is a funky little brewery with an eclectically rustic interior, very good beer and a grumpypants sense of humor.

The brewmaster is grumpy and doesn't really care if he gets your business or not, but that is part of the charm. You must read their website! We've been here 3 times and been served twice...the first time we were told he was too busy brewing to serve us. Don't expect friendly customer service, instead pure sarcastic service. But there... We enjoyed several beers here while in Ouray. The Red Ale we had was delicious and we even bought some to take home with us. The owner, I think his name was Hutch, was an interesting guy, with a lot of knowledge about the local area/people. This is a small bar/brewery with tons of character. Lots of interesting things to... More

The new location on Main Street looks great and has a nice shaded porch. Policies remain the same: cash only for some of the best beer there is in one of three sizes: 26 oz, 20 oz, or one smaller size that’s just not worth remembering.

We finished a jeep tour out of Ouray and decided to grab a burger at Maggie's Kitchen. Walked in next door to grab a beer and rang the bell. The whole place smelled of warm wort percolating somewhere in the back, and there are a ton of simple games lying around for entertainment. Grabbed a great red ale for me... More

Let's get the broad strokes out of the way first before getting into the deeper, more pretentious details. 1. Hutch, the owner of this joint, brews fantastic beer. He usually has five or six different types of beer on tap, and they're all great. Pale ales, reds, IPAs, ambers, stouts, etc. He's worked hard to fine tune his recipes and... More

The brainchild of a brewer known best as Mr. Grumpypants, Ouralye House is a great place to visit if you go in without the expectations of a typical brewery stopover. Regular hours are a bit of a myth and are more dependent on how good the river conditions are and whether the one-man staff wants to come in for it.... More

Mr. Grumpy Pants does not serve food, just great beer. So, go get your burger next door at Maggie's and bring it over and enjoy with a great local brew. The beer he recommended was just to my taste and reasonably priced. That about says it all.

This place is on main street in Ouray and only takes cash. The beer is wonderful (I loved the brown and the stout). I had three of them and felt great the next day. Sometimes when I drink craft beers, they will take a hit on me the next day whether I have one or four...not this place...the beer is... More
