Lazy weekend

Found this pub as part of a small Yorkshire chain. A really nice gastro pub in a lovely village. The beer ( black sheep and landlord ) was very well kept and reasonable. We were given a pleasant greeting and soon shown to our table. The menu was varied and our party of 4 all enjoyed our... read more

I stopped here for lunch on the way from Surrey to Newcastle. We just came across it, and wow weren't we pleased?! Gorgeous food in a great atmosphere, so good that we booked to come back on the way back to Surrey the following day! Had a roast dinners, all gorgeous, and whilst I ordered roast sirloin (yum!) I also... More

17 of us for Sunday lunch 10 adults and 7 kids all very happy after some excellent food. Service was great and we were recommended an excellent wine that was not on the list, but was only £20 a bottle. Will be back for more.

Went for lunch last Friday. Been years since my last visit. Very good lunch - beautifully presented tasty food - the sticky toffee pudding was superb! Staff chatty and friendly - already recommended to friends.

This is a great pub, good food, good beer, music on Thursdays . The problem is the staff. Bad service. We went today for Sunday lunch, booked by phone for 1. 30 so we could get home to watch the 6 nations rugby. We live in the village, and ordered a drink. I told them we were eating but no... More

Visited the punch bowl with several friends to watch the rugby. On entering the pub it was noticed that a lot of people had come to watch the game. Kick off time approached & it became apparent that they had no intention of showing the game as had previously been agreed. Customers started to leave & still no explanation! Many... More

Thank you for your comments regarding your recent visit to The Punch Bowl. We are extremely sorry that your experience was not to the standard that we aim to achieve. We did have all the intention to show the Rugby and were all prepared with the television and game snacks. Unfortunately as we had a very busy lunchtime I'm afraid... More

The Punch Bowl has gradually moved on (since it first became a Provenance Inn) from being a bit of a disappointment to offering a really good experience. It's hard to fault what we were offered. The place was busy - very popular for a lunchtime - but luckily we had booked a table. There were real open fires giving just... More

Called here for a quick mid week lunch and found the food good and freshly prepared. Pleasant surroundings and very attentive staff. A complaint was dealt with pleasantly and successfully. Just a little pricier than our normal mid week lunch time eats but the bill was reduced as we had a money off voucher!

My partner & I ate here one Sunday a couple of weeks ago. We only wanted something light, as we had a big Sunday Dinner of our own prepared back home. We didn't realise it was just Sunday Roast Menu, but staff very kindly let us choose just starters & prices were wonderfully low, really shocked us. Love the feel... More
