Reviews are too kind. We stopped for carry-out at lunch. The tamales are nothing special and the green chile soup was gelatinous with stringy pork....very strange! Service was poor. RD's Diner in Buena Vista has much better green chile than Dorthy's!

The tamales were great and my husband liked his breakfast burrito. This appears to be a family operation and I think everyone is trying hard to get everyone served, but I think they need more help.

Have been to Dorothy's many times for tamales (the BEST!), but had breakfast today for the first & last time. Over cooked, rubbery eggs, under cooked home fries, & burnt toast. We'll be back, but only for tamales.

I've been a repeat customer for years (even when it was in Hartsel) because you can't beat these tamales. We get the spicy chz tamales with vegetarian sauce or pork/green chili. My husband is a chef--these recipes are impossible to re-create! This is one of the few restaurants we happily go to on a regular basis. We never dine in--service... More

I've bought tamales from Dorothy's two Hartsel, CO locations since she first opened her doors. Small with good flavor but unfortunately she still mixes an emulsified filler with the shredded meat. Apparently her move from Hartsel to Fairplay didn't make any difference in her tamales. Better than canned but not nearly as good as they could/should be. Her advantage is... More

Its a bowling alley restaurant. I was not very hungry I only had one bison plain tamales. It was ok. My boyfriend had smothered bison burrito and 2 beers total Bill came to $21. It was ok. There was only 2 customers in the restaurant.

Wow! We had the best pork green chili EVER at this place. They were out of the "meat" tamales, so we had the cheese. Also had a shredded beef burrito, smothered in pork green chili. There was so much beef in it I almost couldn't finish it. Great little place! Also, it's part of a bowling alley if you have... More

A real find (but hard to find) in a local Fairplay a bit south of town on Hwy 285S/ US 24 bowling alley. Dorothy's very handsome grandson seemed overwhelmed by all of the business (he was taking and delivering orders as well as fetching dozens of frozen tamales for customers) but the tamales were great, and the setting very kitschy...... Don't even think about going some where else. So you say, "But I don't like Tamales", well your wrong. OK the secret is to get them with one of the many sauces they offer. My fav was the Buffalo with the special red buffalo sauce and the pork, with the green chilli smothered. Tamales without a great sauce is like... More
