MEXICAN mexican food!

I'm constantly questing for *Mexican* mexican food- not "New Mexican", not some hybrid menu that vaguely involves tortillas- just fresh salsas and flavorful and well cooked meat. So I was happy and relieved when I tasted the tacos here- soft, small corn tortillas decorated with meat, cilantro, and lime, that you fold up and happily stuff into your mouth. Carne... More

I'm from Arizona and have eaten Mexican food for 55 years. Arizona Mexican food may be different than Colorado Mexican food. I am not a fan of seafood, and a lot of the menu was seafood oriented. I found the menu fairly limited comparedtowhatIamusedtom. Very limited burrito and enchilada choices. It took almost 20 minutes to place our order and... More

We came here for lunch after seeing the line at another place up the street. I was a bit concerned at first, because it seemed like there was only one server running around serving the whole restaurant and I really didn't want to wait forever to be seated and served. They seated us quickly and we got our food in... More

I really enjoy the Tampiquena with delicious steak, shrimp, onions, peppers and mushrooms. Very good Margaritas as well. Friendly wait staff but sometimes they are a tad slow and disengaged. Try all of the different varieties of tacos that they have as well - Cachete is very tender. Al Pastor tacos are a classic! Not to mention their Tequila selection... More

They may not be that easy to get to, but it is worth it. They were so kind and answered all my questions about the menu. I got it to go and they gave me chips and salsa also. This is more like authentic Mexican food. Not Tex Mex. I hope to return again soon.

Local friends who had never been here suggested we try this place. All us really enjoyed our meals. Most of their other customers in the restaurant had margaritas....so we too had to try them....pretty descent by my standards. The burritos are huge so I hope you are hungry if you order one. I had the carnitas...plenty, plenty, plenty! The inside... More

This restaurant is a little gem serving fresh and delicious Mexican food, not the gloppy cheese cheese bombs that pass for Mexican food in Durango. The chile relleno was the best I ever had. The chips and salsa are free and the salsa is the best in town. Spicy! The shrimp cocktail is just like I have had in Mexico.... More

My favorite place to eat in Durango. Food is always good, as is the service. The new location offers more dining space and a larger bar area, no out door dining though.

The cocktails have a nice fresh taste to wash down the crispy chips and salsa and prepare for your meal. The salsa is by far the best in this backwater town. If you want a little more zip in your salsa ask for mas picante and your right in the grove. Stick with the chicken and beef dishes as they... More

I ordered a margarita, thankfully it was ok. I ordered tacos al pastor. Large, commercially made shells and about 1 1/2 Tablespoons of meat per taco, the majority of space was filled with chopped head lettuce. No zip, no spice, really no flavor what so ever. The beans were so bland and unflavored, I had to keep checking that I... More
