My 11 year old daughter got food poisoning here. She was violently sick after eating under cooked ( or improperly cooked) chicken nuggets. Couldn't ski the next day. My dinner was awful too (salmon). My husband liked his ribs but overall, would not recommend going to a restaurant that can't even heat up chicken nuggets correctly.

I can remember walking by here when the "Wooden Nickel" was just a bar that we were to young to go in. Now it's not only a bar, but an excellent steak house. Unfortunately they were out of their signature prime rib :(. This is one of our "must gos) when we come to CB. And it is a historic... More

My steak was great, but my wife's fish was undercooked. My steak was $50 but they refused to substitute anything for my fries. Poor service. Poor atmosphere. Unaccommodating. I just wanted to pay for this overpriced meal and leave - with a poor tip that reflected my experience.

We enjoyed our dinners, but couldn't eat everything that was served. One of us had the prime rib sandwich and the other had the buffalo burger. The portions were huge. The flavor of the food was great, but a person can only eat so much.... I felt guilty leaving so much food behind. Service was good. It wasn't a busy... More

Another really tasty meal. Salads were very good, loved the blue cheese dressing. Always live the rib eye here and the sugar snap peas were very good. Don't forget desert, apple pie with vanilla ice cream!!!!

If you're a steak connoisseur don't miss the Wooden Nickel. They had cuts of beef I've never even heard of before and everything we tried was delicious. The portions are really generous so come hungry.

I have enjoyed a hearty dinner here a few times. Service is prompt and friendly. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a Wild West saloon. Although they are best known for their meat dishes, my friend and I both chose fish. The lightly blackened wild trout was excellent. Salmon was also good. They don't skimp on portions here but note that... More

The FAMOUS prime rib is no better than one might have at a Sizzler. I seriously doubt the cut was prime. It was not tender nor juicy nor well seasoned. Decent, edible but not worth the stunning price. The baked potato was prime however. Slow service, nice server but seemed "clueless". The restaurant is attractive, one feels they are in... More

We're from Golden, CO, and my all-time favorite restaurant is the Capital Grille. So, I am not deterred by steakhouse prices. My husband and I got a referral to the Wooden Nickel by a Crested Butte native when they heard we were going to visit for the first time. This was a very fun evening! The food was exceptional, the... Very western menu: elk, buffalo, beef, etc. One of the oldest buildings in town, so it has true rustic atmosphere. Great wait staff, hearty food prepared to perfection, excellent drinks. It is a bit expensive, but well worth the prices.
