Neat old building with charm

We visited over the 4th of July and waiting for almost an hour for expensive terrible food. The steaks were raw when we asked that they be medium and they had no flavor. We ordered appetizers prior to our meal and they were flavorless. It was not worth the $200 + price tag for a family of four.

Just stopped in for drinks and while we were impressed with the decor, the primary wait staff bartender did an excellent job of ignoring all but the locals.

A class western bar but staff seem more interested talking to their mates. Popular with the tourist visitors but the locals avoid. Pretty pricey for whats on offer. Invest the time to explore other options

Eric the owner will probably personally great you and thank you for coming. The ambience is very eclectic and has a nice feel to it. The staff is very well knowledgeable and friendly. Not to mention the steaks are top notch as are the drinks! Make sure to get a Nickeloshki!

We went to the Wood Nickel for our anniversary dinner. Our food was all very good, but perhaps a tad overpriced for the steaks. We ordered appetizers, drinks, entrees and desserts, and everything was yummy.

The ambience here feels classic Colorado, which matches up well with the menu. We came here wanting some Colorado specialties and were glad to be able to order elk tenderloin and Rocky Mountain trout. The elk was unforgettable - cooked medium rare - tender. I ordered the 8 oz. but wish I had ordered 12 oz to take some home.... More

The Wooden Nickel is the first restaurant we ever went to when we visited Crested Butte almost 25 years ago and it's still our favorite! For sure they have the best steaks in town and other great stuff on the menu. The wine list is VERY reasonably priced with many great choices. The atmosphere is still somewhat rustic but comfortable... More

Great place, with great character. Small, but big enough. We went with 4 adults and 2 kids. Each couple shared a bone in filet mignon, which was pretty good. For $50 you get thick steak, a salad, and baked potato. The kids burger was way overcooked and the macaroni was Kraft Macaroni & Cheese out of the box - weird... More

We enjoyed our dinner here. I had the elk, which was more than I could eat, and my husband had the prime rib, which was very large too. We split the blue cheese crumble salad, which was excellent. The prices on the wine list are on the high side. We were disappointed that our server never poured our wine after... More
