Pricey but Good...great atmosphere for Birthday Celebration

For my husband's birthday dinner with our daughter and son-in-law while in Crested Butte, we researched the best steakhouse. It lead us to this location. The ambiance is pretty cool. It is the oldest saloon and a good steakhouse. Building history and the buffalo on the wall is cool. We sat... read more

We would have to disagree with the comments that the staff is more "male" friendly than female. We appreciated how all of the servers in the bar area helped each other so that every table was taken care of in a professional manner. The food was delicious and the atmosphere terrific. Expect to pay for what you get, which is... More

In CB to kick of our vacation home remodel and needed a place to fill in for our usual steak dinner on Sunday evening in Dallas. And "The Wooden Nickel fills" in nicely . Wonderful historic setting with excellent food and service. We both had their 12oz prime rib - it was outstanding, our only complaint: we should have split... More

I've eaten here twice, and had good service and food. Highly recommend the peal-eat-shrimp and onion rings. A specialty is bone-in fillet - outstanding!

There were 2 couples in our group and we had the elk tenderloin, buffalo steak and fillet mignon. Only the buffalo steak was disappointing. The waitress "legged" out some good service but did favor the guys over the girls. Her sexist service did create some good table talk among the four of us. We ate in the bar area which... More

We visited over the 4th of July and waiting for almost an hour for expensive terrible food. The steaks were raw when we asked that they be medium and they had no flavor. We ordered appetizers prior to our meal and they were flavorless. It was not worth the $200 + price tag for a family of four.

Just stopped in for drinks and while we were impressed with the decor, the primary wait staff bartender did an excellent job of ignoring all but the locals.

A class western bar but staff seem more interested talking to their mates. Popular with the tourist visitors but the locals avoid. Pretty pricey for whats on offer. Invest the time to explore other options

Eric the owner will probably personally great you and thank you for coming. The ambience is very eclectic and has a nice feel to it. The staff is very well knowledgeable and friendly. Not to mention the steaks are top notch as are the drinks! Make sure to get a Nickeloshki!

We went to the Wood Nickel for our anniversary dinner. Our food was all very good, but perhaps a tad overpriced for the steaks. We ordered appetizers, drinks, entrees and desserts, and everything was yummy.
