First time trying Ethiopian food!

We saw the wonderful reviews for this place and thought we had to try it. Neither my husband nor I had ever tried Ethiopian food before. The place was busy - we did not have a reservation and, fortunately, got there just before the dinner rush! I ordered a meat/vegetable combo with lamb, and my... read more

if you've been to Uchena you know Maya. Maya is the loving, lovely owner of this Ethiopian gem of a place. If you don't know Maya - go to Uchena! Accept some assistance when you order. Eat your choice of deliciousness. Then when you go back, and you will if you're a local, you will know Maya. Maya will be... More

Local. Friendly. Pride in what's produced and in service. Unique food that I've never had anywhere else. Filling but I feel healthy after eating there instead of weighed down.

I've eaten here before and always come away with an appreciation of Maya and her staff. The food is flavorful and unique. I've tasted nearly a half-dozen things on the menu, and all of them are amazing. I'm usually too cheap to buy drinks at a restaurant, but I always get the rose-water lemonade or orange-water iced tea. Totally worth... More

Maya, the owner, is so inviting. She hugged us as we entered. A good friend and patron had suggested we stop by. BEST suggestion of my life. We ordered sautéed shrimp over aged rice AND chicken pita. So delicious, I tilted my plate and licked the juices. Just as though I were in the privacy of my own kitchen. You... More

Ethiopian food is unusual in middle America, and this restaurant does it extremely well. The family and the service were also friendly, gracious, and hospitable. A great culinary and cultural treat!

Great food and good to finally find something different and run locally (not a chain)! This place is very tiny so likely best for groups of 2-4.

We went in expecting a five star experience and we were treated to one. The interior decor instantly translates you to a very different magical place steeped with traditions and colors and culture. The staff are friendly and patient. The great tradition of Ethiopian culture is community meals. Although that is not possible in a restaurant, Uchenna strives hard to... More

I had never had Ethiopian food before. Uchenna is a family owned restaurant. It is located about 2.5 miles from Colorado Springs center. I was warmly greeted by the owner when I arrived. The service is fantastic as they really care about their customers. I had the Vegetarian Combo (Combination of Misser Alecha, Misser Wat, Shiro Wat). It was all... More
