French Nuevo in Boulder

My college-age daughter and I met for a visit over the weekend at Mateo. It's bustling, energetic, hip, snappy, and delicious. We shared a perfectly dressed salad of mixed greens, golden beets, currants and goat cheese. Lovely sour dough bread arrived just before the salad, accompanied with a... read more

Four of us had lunch at Mateo on May 3, 2012 and it was outstanding. All of us had the special which was duck confit over risotto and everyone of us loved it. We also had a side of pomme frites which were spectacular. We sat outside on the patio which was pleasant and comfortable. The staff was very friendly... More

I searched all over for a burger that would be better than those I can make on my grill. Mateo wins hands down. Even more wonderful is that the menu offers inspired choices for those not in the mood for a burger. I also enjoy the art on the walls.

We visited Mateo on a Monday evening to celebrate my birthday. It was our first visit to this restaurant and we found the experience to be friendly, warm and one that will definitely bring us back. The menu is strongly French as are the wines. They offer excellent wines by the carafe at very reasonable prices. The Sommelier is very... More

Had an early dinner there during the "First Bite Boulder" events, when the notable local restaurants all offer special menus with wine pairings. This may have put staff on their A game. That said, the overall experience was outstanding. Everything was right on point. Welcome at the door was warm and not overbearing. Service orchestrated perfectly like clockwork. Food superb.... While we have eaten at mateo often, and it is delicious, it's always a disappointment when mat's wife, meghan, suddenly feels the need to be part of the restaurant world as it turns from being a nice restaurant experience to feeling like you've over stayed your welcome if you haven't ordered an expensive enough fare:(

I've eaten at Mateo for dinner too many times to count. Normally, it's very, very good food, tho the service can be spotty at times, especially when they are busy. My most recent visit was for a solo lunch. I took an outdoor patio seat, as it was a pleasant day and wanted to be outdoors, as were more of... More

My husband and I visited Mateo recently, and I must recomment the Poulet Frites. My mouth waters thinking about it! I love chicken and this was one of the best. My husband had the moules and they were good also. But the chicken was outstanding.

Understanding that I was traveling with a group of eleven, a challenge for many smaller restaurants in Boulder. We are a foodie group and ate at Frasca, Black Cat, the Kitchen and sushi tora. Mateo and Sushi tora were most of our favorites. Frasca was huge disappointment on many levels and not worth the cost. Mateo was great, lamb pasta... More
