Mateo: A Genuine Treat

It's never a guarantee that when the order is for Steak/Frites, that what comes out of the kitchen makes you think you've been transported to Brussels. That's what happened at our recent visit to Mateo in Boulder, Colorado. From the moment we walked into Mateo, we were treated like special... read more

This is a wonderful bistro that has very reasonable prices and bountiful offerings. Had the Eggs Benedict if are in Boulder this is your brunch. The staff do a great job and was very friendly. All the plates that came from the kitchen look amazing. This is Boulder's best kept secret. I guess I just let the secret out.

I LOVE this place! The food is fantastic -- brunch, lunch and dinner (amazing benedicts for brunch and for dinner you must try their signature poulet frites!). They have an extensive wine list and amazing cocktails too. The service is outstanding and the atmosphere is lively but not too loud. Mateo is one of my favorite go-to restaurants for happy... More

I had a hard time choosing from all the mouthwatering offerings. Chilaquiles are one of my favorite dishes, and yes I know it was created to use leftover tortillas. The excellent chorizo on top and the perfectly cooked eggs made it the best. My spouse had eggs benedict and said they were superb, which means the hollendaise sauce was perfect... More

This is a fantastic restaurant for anyone, but in particular, they do an amazing job for groups. I had a large group dinner and we were able to do a buyout for the entire restaurant. The service was fantastic and I got such great compliments on the food and atmosphere. They were one of the easiest restaurants I've ever worked... More

This is nice small restaurant, and has a small but wonderfully varied menu. We had the burgers for lunch with Greyere cheese the first time went. I have to say, this was the best burger I ever had. It is $15, but it is worth it, since most burgers elsewhere are just average. We are gluten free, and have tried... More

Stopped by for lunch today, and was pleased by the delightful Moules Provencal, accompanied by frites. The mussels were ample in quantity, and wonderful in quality. The broth was also delightful. My major criticism of this restaurant is that it has only very expensive wines, which is unusual for a bistro. There are enough delightful light white wines available in... More

Mateo is a classic French-type bistro for steak-frites and all the kind of food associated with bistro food. But what struck me as much as the outstanding food (if only we had a place like this is Utah!) was the crew at the bar. The barman provided a show wiith perfectly executed drinks, while two very skillful assistants kept him... More

Let me start by saying that Mateo's had excellent food, worthy of a foodie. However, our experience started with a newbie waiter who was not on his best game. Our appetizer and dinner came out in a random order, bar drinks were late, and special requests on food items were disregarded. We new we would not come back. The manager... More

Mateo is hands-down one of the best all-around places in Boulder. Consistently great service and food. Matthew and his staff do a tremendous job of making you feel comfortable in this relaxed casual environment. My wife and I frequently dine here for dinner and a few times for brunch. I entertain clients here for lunch on a regular basis as... More
