Mateo: A Genuine Treat

It's never a guarantee that when the order is for Steak/Frites, that what comes out of the kitchen makes you think you've been transported to Brussels. That's what happened at our recent visit to Mateo in Boulder, Colorado. From the moment we walked into Mateo, we were treated like special... read more

This is a fantastic restaurant for anyone, but in particular, they do an amazing job for groups. I had a large group dinner and we were able to do a buyout for the entire restaurant. The service was fantastic and I got such great compliments on the food and atmosphere. They were one of the easiest restaurants I've ever worked... More

This is nice small restaurant, and has a small but wonderfully varied menu. We had the burgers for lunch with Greyere cheese the first time went. I have to say, this was the best burger I ever had. It is $15, but it is worth it, since most burgers elsewhere are just average. We are gluten free, and have tried... More

Stopped by for lunch today, and was pleased by the delightful Moules Provencal, accompanied by frites. The mussels were ample in quantity, and wonderful in quality. The broth was also delightful. My major criticism of this restaurant is that it has only very expensive wines, which is unusual for a bistro. There are enough delightful light white wines available in... More

Mateo is a classic French-type bistro for steak-frites and all the kind of food associated with bistro food. But what struck me as much as the outstanding food (if only we had a place like this is Utah!) was the crew at the bar. The barman provided a show wiith perfectly executed drinks, while two very skillful assistants kept him... More

Let me start by saying that Mateo's had excellent food, worthy of a foodie. However, our experience started with a newbie waiter who was not on his best game. Our appetizer and dinner came out in a random order, bar drinks were late, and special requests on food items were disregarded. We new we would not come back. The manager... More

Mateo is hands-down one of the best all-around places in Boulder. Consistently great service and food. Matthew and his staff do a tremendous job of making you feel comfortable in this relaxed casual environment. My wife and I frequently dine here for dinner and a few times for brunch. I entertain clients here for lunch on a regular basis as... More

A pleasant dinner. Menu is brief but offers a range of choices. A bit noisy even on a Wednesday evening but not overwhelming. If weather had been better we would have tried the patio.

We've eaten dinner at Mateo in the past but our first Sunday brunch was this past Easter Sunday. The menu if terrific and the tastes outstanding. The porc hash was unique, perfectly portioned and wonderful. My wife and elderly mother both had the Mateo breakfast with eggs perfectly done, fantastic potatoes and thick, crispy bacon. But what really stands out... More

Mateo is a gem on East Pearl St in Boulder. We felt like we had wandered into a small cafe in Provence. It has a warm, inviting atmosphere that is not loud or pretentious. The staff were friendly, attentive and knew their wine and cheese. I recommend the frommage cheese plate and any of their fresh salads. Also, the chicken... More
