The food was amazing, the service top-notch. Unfortunately John's has closed its doors. As far as I know there are no plans to relocate or reopen. I will update this review if I hear of anything new but I'm sorry to say that it looks like Boulder has lost one of its truly great restaurants.

There arent many ethnic restaurants in Colorado. I've always looked at John's as authentic French cuisine, although they refer to it as Haute cuisine. (it is listed under traditional American food.) I think it is the attention to detail, like the sauces, that makes me feel this way. It looks like a small house on the outside, and is a... More

I read several reviews on John's before making reservations and was happy to have a fabulous experience there. I was not expecting the restaurant to have such a formal feel, but the service was outstanding. Our waiter was extremely attentive and provided great feedback on the dining choices. We started with the big eye tuna appetizer and the mixed greens... More

Situated in a small cottage, but on a rare freezing October night, it was extremely cosy. I had the fois gras (not p.c. I know, but I love it!), followed by tuna, both very good. I am a great pud person, but there was nothing out of the ordinary to tempt me, although the others shared a trio of taster... More

We've been here on many occassions now and just love John's. The service is always excellent but not formal. Somehow they manage to find waitstaff with just the right blend of quirk and experience. Everything is always perfectly timed. The food is always outstanding. The one time we mentioned that one of the dishes for the six course menu was... More

I attended a special business event that packed the restaurant. The wait staff was delightful and attentive, the appetizers delicious, the salads just about perfect and the dessert sampler a perfect topper. The disappointments were in two of the entree's: the quail and the steak. The quail seasonings were very bland in contrast to the white polenta - and the... More

Our family of three dined at John's to take advantage of Restaurant Week dinner: $26.80/pp. It seems to me that the Restaurant Week promotion is to get diners through the door and hope they come back(at regular prices). Many of the choices for courses 1,2 and 3 are on the regular menu....as far as portions...when I say a TASTE, I'm... More

John's is pricey, but if you love great food and a fancy meal every once in a while, there is no better place to go! We've been several times and every time I love it more and more! It's a cute little house that's been turned into a fancy eatery, so it's cozy and sweet! The night my fiance proposed,... More

Have eaten at many Boulder restaurants and was amazed that we did not hear of this one before now. Food was great - my wife said her tuna appetizer was best tuna she ever tasted. We had eaten at Frasca the night before - which we loved - but the food here was just as good, and priced somewhat better,... More

I can't believe this place doesn't rank higher, though it's the only upscale restaurant I visited in Boulder. The food was superbly planned, cooked, presented, and the wine pairings were excellent. (My husband knows a lot about wine and is reluctant to give up the option to choose, but he was quite satisfied with the restaurant's pairings.) The service was... More
