Comfortable and tasty

This was our second time to Ad Hoc and it was as good as the first. When we booked the trip out to Napa, Ad Hoc was the first reservation my wife asked me to make as we both think it's the best food for the price that we've tasted. It's a fixed menu and both times we've been the... read more

Got to agree with review below. Went last night. Paella was the main dish. Over salty chicken legs and thighs, under cooked mussels and just not that tasty was the consensus of my party of 4. Boring and bad. Dessert was a breakfast bun with ice cream. Fav part of meal was crackers with cheese. Not what you expect for... More

I've tried both Per se and Bouchon before this, so had a lot of expectations for Thomas Keller restaurants. The ambience was great and the food was good, but I just expected a lot more from a prix-fix menu. I wished there was more choices for each course, because none of the individual course made real impressions on me.

I had reasonably high expectations for Ad Hoc going in based on word of mouth from friends and colleagues. For those who don't know, the restaurant offers a set menu with no substitutions, which is perfectly fine so long as you do not have any big restrictions (e.g. vegetarianism). On the day we went, the menu was salad followed by... More

We were a little taken back by the casualness, but when the food arrived we were very pleased with the meal. The short ribs were devine and since it is served family stile I didn't feal uncomfortable having to finish hers. The music was a little loud and rockish for casual dining. Was a little disapointed in the wine flight.... More

We enjoyed the casual atmosphere of Ad Hoc, but the food was not as good as we'd hoped. Since the menu is a single choice, four course meal it had better all be great. We had roasted chicken and went with the mussel option. Unfortunately the mussels had turned and were very disappointing. Chef or staff should taste consistently to... More

I went to Napa/Yountville for a couples weekend, and I definitely think Thomas Keller's restaurants were the highlights of my trip. Price: $150+/- for 2 people (not bad really compared to some other places such as Keller's French Laundry, which I have not had the pleasure to go to) but with booze and the ribs/fried chicken, it was reasonable for... We ate here last week, and we were disappointed. The food was OK, although the cheese course (perhaps they didn't call it that?) had only one type of cheese on it. The caesar salad was underwhelming; the main course, chicken, was actually quite good, but then from there, things were only OK. Probably the most disappointing aspect was the wine... More

Friends and I Ad Hoc and were very disappointed. Not only was it expensive ($80 per person), the food was average at best. This is a fixed price menu that included salad, pasta, sliced steak and a waffle/ice cream dessert. The steak had gristle and the dessert was very plain. We will not go back.

I live in the wine country and am familiar with Ad Hoc's servings. The offer one menu per night with fried chicken served every other Monday. The casual take out area called Addendum serves a picnic lunch of either fried chcken or barbecue with sides. They operate Thursday through Sturday from 11 to 2 p.m. While reading prior reviews I...
