Mel's is an instituition...

The food is fine at Mel's but you go there for much more...... the photos on the wall, the staff in their retro uniforms and the jukeboxes in your booth. You expect to see "the Fonz" at any moment....

Clearly somewhat of an institution, this place deserves 5 stars on the basis of the décor alone. Some of the booths even have their own Jukebox. As for the food; good, honest diner staples, with a few specials thrown in for good measure. Good, attentive service.

We only had milkshakes in here but they were so good I feel compelled to review. Mels is a proper old style American diner, with a large menu and attentive waitresses. This is the best milkshake I have ever had - basically blended ice cream. Yum. They give you a "little bit extra" in the shaker - no, it is... More

I ate in a few diners in LA and this was my favourite by far. Great breakfasts, prepared with love unlike the stuff you get in a big chain like Denny's. French toast was excellent. Also love the pancakes. They were quick to refill drinks and there's free wifi

I understand what people are saying about the atmosphere. It is neat. But my experience was that the bad service and mediocre food far overshadow the atmosphere. Service was slow and inattentive, burger was overcooked, "heated up" carrot cake had icing completely melted and puddled on the bottom of the plate. Ditch this trap, find something worth eating.

Although Mel's is a Hollywood spot, it's never crowded and their food is terrific. Brunch is the best on a Sunday morning or a late night snack. I get the turkey sandwich with fries. Recommended!

Went here for a lunch for 4 people in July 15. Seemed very disorganised, there were about 5 groups in front of us, but no system for noting who arrived first, and when I said we'd be happy sitting at the counter which was entirely empty, the waitress then realised that she should probably offer the counter to the groups... After a long flight the night before Mel's drive-in offered a great look back at how breakfast should be. Coffee was never ending refills, OJ freshly squeezed, pancakes plentiful, fruit abundant and served by an attentive, friendly team. Minor drawback was a local who seemed to be on something but was harmless enough. All round an excellent meal and great... More

Just of the Blvd opens fairly late when just flown in a great place to go. The typical american drive in that you see in many of the movies and reasonable food also.

Love this place probably above most others....huge diner menu that will leave you incapable of making a decision, awesome food no matter what you order, awesome service, awesome atmosphere, booth-style seating and juke-boxes at every booth...for a quarter you can choose from hundreds of classic rock and roll...we went for meals or just drinks or snacks several times a day...
