Andy never fails to supply the freshest, high quality sashimi around. This past week, I even had a rainbow roll and a california roll. Andy uses a high grade vinegar so the rice isn't bitter. I also had the tempura, which I rarely have, but it was light and delicious. This is not a fancy, romantic place to visit (go... More

Ok, this isn't a fancy place at all. But if you want the best sushi in the East Bay go to Sakana. Just go with the classics and you won't be disappointed.

Drove up from Los Angeles over the Memorial weekend and discovered the best sushi restaurant ever. And we know good sushi. We have been to many great sushi restaurants in L.A area and this place is just impressive! The the fish is sooo fresh and the quaility of the sashimi is absolutely excellent. The chef is friendly and very generious... More

We have eaten at Sakana with Andy and LoLi every week for several years. The sashimi is fresh, excellent, and reasonably priced. Andy only serves the best. We have had a few other items- rolls, sushi and tempura and they are fine. Being regulars, LoLi and any other servers that happen to be there, also remember what we order. We... More

I have traveled all over the country and NO ONE can beat Sakana for freshness or portions. Andy is the owner and is very Friendly. Sakana is not into the real fancy rolls like you see at some Sushi restaurants but if you want very good quality and good portions as well as a good selection of fish Sakana is... More

This place is the real deal. Chef Andy knows fish, and the number of regulars around the sushi bar echo that. Walnut Creek has at least eight sushi bars, I've tried them all and come back here for the friendly vibe and the good food !

Been there many times, great for kids (japanese soda that pops), good, fresh sushi, atmosphere minimal but comfortable place. Never had a bad piece of raw stuff. Teriyaki is so so.

Our family goes to Sakana whenever we have sushi. They have excellent "real" sushi - fresh fish and well made sushi with the perfect balance of ingredients - not too much rice, as many cheap places have. They serve both outstanding sushi and some unusual, more traditional Japanese fare that is well worth trying, if you're brave enough to veer... More

This is our 'regular' Japanese eating-out place. The location is a bit out of the way but you can always park right in front - a rarity in Walnut Creek! Plus it's rarely crowded, so you don't need reservations. The food is always good tho' nothing out of the ordinary. If you want good reliable sushi, tempura, grilled salmon etc.... More
