Haven't been here in a while and was truly disappointed. Shrimp dinner has changed and now is nothing special, my ribs were dry and it all seemed to be moving in slow motion. Our waitress was hustling but seemed to be the only one. Three men in button down shirts and ties (managers ?) just stood by watching. C'mon guys,... More

I have not eaten at the original Hick'ry Pit in almost a decade. Good to see the food is delicious. parking still a little hassle, park on the side, cut the food was great. We all had the St. Louis Ribs with French fries, BBQ beans and corn. A great environment too, friendly staff and quick from order to eating.

This outlet resembles more the old school stores of the glorious past of Emil Villa's Hickory Pit in Oakland. I like it here, but my BF, REALLY likes it! We come mostly on his account. The brown BBQ sauce is great here, I like it too. It's like no other BBQ sauce I've ever had. Its just so nice to... More

Here's a pit stop you need to make whether traveling I-680 or a resident of Diablo Valley, The Hick'ry Pit in Walnut Creek is a '50s kind of place. The counter is full of "regulars" each morning and know each other as well as the servers by name, I call it the "Counter Culture" and it's a welcoming crowd ready... More

I really like this place, but can see why others may not. It is an old fashioned diner/ BBQ pit. NOT FOR FOODIES!! This is not retro chic, just never changed menu or interior. They cook food on the grill behind the counter, near the cash register and the front door. It has a very large wood burning BBQ visible... More

I admit the geriatric environment can be less than invigorating. If you can get past that the bottom line is that the pork ribs are Great!!!

Over the years this place has been a family favorite. (Full disclosure – the original founder’s son was my high school classmate. Haven’t seen him in 60 years!) It still is. On a recent visit we ate breakfast here twice. Good, hearty diner style breakfasts, some of which include the signature smoked meats. During a recent dinner we all ordered... More

The bald clown posing as a host forgot to come back and seat us, after saying "be right back friends" 10 minutes later a manager noticed us standing idly and sat us in a fat booth. Our waitress took a long while to appear as she was telling her co-horts what pain in the as**es her other tables were. She... More

Not sure why this place is so popular. I've had their salads and ribs, and even tried their quesadillas. Nothing to write home about. Maybe their pies are special...
