Buon gusto

There are lots of Italian restaurants in the Wanut Creek area, but this one is more Italian than most. The solicitous owner hails from the Venuto and the menu anf preparations hew closely to those roots. The sauces have none of the bland quality often tasted in Italian American restaurants. I found... read more

Spot on TA rating helps us again! Looking for a Sat evening family dinner spot in downtown, we chose Ottavio based on its good TA reviews. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality & authenticity of italian food at this restaurant. Location: In downtown, though at the 'other' end from the major shopping area. Ambiance: small & intimate. Not much... More

Four of us were there for a birthday celebration and completely enjoyed Ottavio. It's one of those places where you could have a business meeting, a quiet romantic dinner, or a family gathering. We started with a couple of salads, the beef carpaccio with arugula, and the house-smoked swordfish and sturgeon carpaccio (a bit unusual and very tasty). Our entrees... More

I had to schedule a business dinner and with so many places to go in downtown Walnut Creek I didn't know where to start. Of course I decided to check Tripadvisor and Ottavio came up. The reviews sounded great and I decided to give them a try. The wait staff was very pleasant and explained the chefs specialties which made... More

I was looking for a new place to have dinner close to home and so glad I went here. The staff was attentive and love that I can taste a wine before ordering a glass. Being able to get game meat and not have to go to Canada is great. The wild boar, venison and duck were fantastic and the... More

I have been to Ottavio's 4x since the week after it opened a couple of years ago. Each meal has been memorable. I especially recommend the duck breast with figs on a bed of polenta. YUMMY!!!! A panna cotta with berries was delicious!!!! The burrata cheese appetizer is wonderful too! Recently I hosted a birthday dinner for 17 there and... More

Truly, you must try Ottavio!! This chef/owner turns out the most authentic food I've had, outside Italy. The grilled sardines were just like the ones from the lagoon in Venice, served over "pepperonata"...like no other I've had. It was more like a fabulous salad of heirloom tomatoes, arugula and pine nuts...heaven. For our mains, we had the roasted chicken with... More

Outstanding food, prepared well and nice presentation in a understated, but very nice atmosphere with an open kitchen (nothing to hide). Would have been 5 stars except the service was slow and spotty. Not the waiters fault. It appeared they only had one for approximately 10 tables. Fairly long waits between courses and check. We will return for the Food.

This place is by far the best Italian restaurant in WC. I travel here for work frequently and have made the rounds saving this one for near last. The food is simply Wow factor. I had a chance to talk to the proprietor (di Venezia) and he was quite frank with me. He has a mission to create the best... More
