Description: Kohnen's Country Bakery, located in historic downtown Tehachapi,...
Kohnen's Country Bakery, located in historic downtown Tehachapi, California, is a delightful contemporary German bakery designed with Old World Charm. Honoring his German food traditions, baker Thomas Kohnen makes every batch from scratch - including some 20 varieties of artisan breads dense with whole grains, full flavors, and crisp crusts. Kohnen's offers fresh bread baked daily, including crusty rye, basil-barley garden, six-grain, sun dried tomato, delicate cinnamon raisin, and even pizza bread, not to mention pretzels, boiled-then-baked bagels, and Brotchen - traditional, crusty German breakfast rolls. We also offer refreshing German beer and freshly brewed iced tea. Desserts are gorgeous and irresistible, too. A few temptations are cinnamon crisps, apricot-walnut kolaches, and espresso chocolate chip cookies. The cafe also serves fresh-made soups and made-to-order sandwiches using Kohnen's breads for take-out, dining inside, or on the patio.

Fantastic breakfast and lunch!

Their sandwiches, pastries, and soup are 5-star! Also, they have great coffee (most restaurants serve stuff they call coffee, but is only hot, black liquid).

They have really great sandwiches -- the bread is fresh baked on the premises -- always busy. So glad they expanded for more seating a while back. The pickles are the bomb!!

Können' Bakery is a little taste of Germany in Tehachapi. Being German, it was a delight to see this in the town where we were going to move to. It has a great variety of German goodies. Delicious bread and a lot of other traditional things. It is always packed with people enjoying great food.

As we often find, bakeries that try to do it all fall short in some area. The pastries we purchased and at on the spot were very good. We'd go again for them if in the area. But the bread we purchased just didn't measure up. The sourdough wasn't really done with a sourdough starter from what we could tell... More

Kohnen's is a great place for large fresh handmade sandwiches. I wish they served their sandwiches daily on sourdough bread but you can only get sourdough two days pre week. The service is always friendly and their prices are reasonable. The bakery at Kohnen"s is excellent also.

The bakery didn’t really match the rest of the nearby town so it seemed outa place. Friendly staff, open areas, light and bright. Easy parking. This bakery has a country flavored atmosphere and a Euro vibe/ambience and funky décor. Almost seems like a total tourist stop because the of the tchotchke/trinkets for sale. Anyways, it was nice but less than... More

The pastries are fresh and excellent. I had a raspberry danish that was packed with fresh, sweet raspberries; one of the best I have ever had. I also had a ham and cheese croissant that was very good. My wife had a German cabbage bun that was outstanding. The coffee however was rather boring. We tossed it and went to... More

Trains & Lunch. Wonderful place to have a bowl of really good clam chowder and a roast beef or turkey sandwich on some very good bread.. They have a good selection of adult beverages. If you have the clam chowder you get a roll, we went home with a dozen of them they were so good. You're only 20 minutes... More

Since I was introduced to this establishment I have never been disappointed. The wife and I usually get a Poboy and one is plenty for us. The bread is cooked very well and I would eat it alone. If you are looking for a good meal this is the spot.
