Description: Lassen Ale Works at the Pioneer Saloon in Uptown Susanville is Northeastern California's only brewpub. We are a 21 and over only establishment. The historic Pioneer Mercantile building we occupy has been home to a saloon for 150 years--look for the large vintage neon Pioneer sign on the south side of Main Street. We offer a small but eclectic menu of house-made dishes including fish and chips, lamb stew, hamburgers and fresh salads. Our ales are made on site and include light and dark ales from the pale, crisp Bizz Johnson Blonde to the rip snorting Pioneer Porter. We also have a full bar, specialty cocktails, a wine by the glass and a selection of single malt scotch. Take a seat at our 36-foot-long bar and admire the wall of local ranch brands above the bar back or go into the back room to watch the brewer at work and play pool beneath the historic mural that celebrates the logging and ranching roots of Susanville.

On this visit I ordered their chicken, garlic and spinach soup. Delicious. Their half an order of Caesar salad was tiny and the romaine lettuce was limp and came with too much dressing which was lacking a Caesar dressing component. Perhaps the anchovy? Ask for the dressing on the side if you want to taste any lettuce. The garlic bread... More

The beer was excellent as was the food. I had THE best pasta primavera ever. People in small towns are friendly in general but the staff and even the diners were super nice. They have live music once or twice a week, there's a pool table in the back but it is a family restaurant. The locals eat here and... More

I was craving comfort food and was delighted when I saw macaroni and cheese on the menu. That's it for me! I was sold and the meal did not disappoint. My husband says the brown ale was outstanding and that the burger was very good. The bar has a really neat ambience. I spent alot of time trying to figure... More

Realizing that our LAW has received a slew of great reviews, I still wanted to add my two cents as a "local" with pride in our history revisited. An authentic survivor of America's Old West, nestled in the heart of historic Uptown Susanville, the Pioneer Saloon was established in 1862, as the Humboldt Exchange Saloon. It changed hands and names... More

The brew is good too. And I have heard the Fish and Chips is good. Don't miss it if you are staying in Susanville. The historic setting is wonderful too. Oh... and the servers were wonderful. I loved this place.

Everything I've tried here has been good. Burgers and Chicken sandwiches are especially good. Ambiance is nice. Prices are slightly high, but not bad.

Born in 1862, but refurbished in 2012, this saloon calls itself the oldest and newest watering hole in northeastern California, and it has so much for me to woo you with. Artisan ales, full bar, expansive menu...check, check, check. I'm in love with the comforting hot cocktail I ordered on this rainy evening: the St. George Sipper. Pear brandy, pear... More

Have been in the Ale Works twice, mostly because it was recommended by others. The food was ok and the service was friendly but a bit on the slow side. The portions were also on the small side for the price. Regarding price, it seemed expensive in comparison to other restaurants in the area. Overall this is just an ok... More

They have the best fried fish and onion rings. The onion ring sauce complements both the fish and onion rings. I am not a beer drinker but my husband likes the light beers. This is a bar, no one under the age of 21 is allowed.
