We stopped for lunch on June 7 enroute to San Francisco from LA, based on a friend's recommendation. It was very crowded and busy and we noted that the facilities were very run down as we were shown our table. On the positive side, the wait time was short. Ordered puri-subji, medu vadas, and adai-avial. Puri-subji was just ok. However,... More

Have eaten here for many years, since before they moved to the current location. Food is consistently good and tasty. Eat early to avoid the crowds. I especially like the night meals and the chana bhatura. The only word of caution is that the food comes in the order it appears. Often appetizers come after / at the same time... More

Easy to find, with adequate (not ample) parking, this restaurant serves home-style South Indian food: dosas, idlis, etc. as well as full thali-type South Indian meals. The cooking, taste and presentations are authentic. I tied their unusual "adai aviyal" and was pleasantly surprised by the taste and presentation. My adult companions tried two different style dosas; our appetizer was an... More

Today's meal was a very pleasant family lunch in an authentic environment. Good Dosas and great utapam. We have eaten at Saravana Bavana in NJ, NYC. and in Chennai.

If you want quality Indian vegetarian food while in the SFO bay area - Saravana Bhavan is the place to go. Their taste and quality are consistent. Its always crowded though and they do not have breakfast.

We ordered a plate of idly, poori, vada, pongal and coffee. The food was amazing and I really loved it. The downside is the average service with you having to wait a long time for the person to come take your order or you have to go call the person to take your order or get you the check. Food... More

We know why this restaurant is so popular: the food is good. An Indian restaurant full of Indians of all ages is a good sign. Food is served on metal plates. Part of a group of five, we were able to try a variety. Idlis were perfectly prepared. Three types of uttapam were also fresh and tasty. Masala dosas are... More

May be it was not a good time to go there but I didnt have a great experience. We went there on Sunday afternoon and there was waiting which is okay. When we got the table and finally placed the order, the guy actually packed our food instead of serving us and gave it to us. I was okay with... More

I've been to many Indian restaurants in the bay area, and I must say that Saravana Bhavan was the only one that disappointed me in every way possible. The service was appalling, and the waiters didn't seem to care about customers. First, nobody moved from where they were lounging to take orders. Finally, after we called them over a couple... More
