On our recent trip to the Bay area from Chicago, we visited this restaurant based on the ads we had seen in the local papers. We were accompanied by our parents from India who had heard rave reviews of the food back home and were eager to sample the same. We were in for a huge disappointment!! The food was... More

We (me and my wife) went here for a sunday lunch. We got to pay first and it came to 21 $ for 2. And we were given a token corresponding to a table. We were served with Rice, Sambar, Rasam, Potato fry, Keerai kootu, Appalam. And none of them tasted good. One needs to ask for more rice if... More

Even though we are South Indians, and are experts in making the traditional South Indian dishes, we chose to go there, for a change. But were terribly disappointed!! Earlier, they used to have unlimited thali meals, but now, for the same cost, it is limited...they served one chapathi, bell pepper sambhar, rasam, cabbage koottu, cauliflower and potato curry, pepper gravy,... Having been in Bay Area for almost 10 years, somehow I missed visiting this restaurant until a friend of mine got me here for lunch. When I got there, there was only one item on menu - fixed price lunch thali. The food was great, comparable to other South Indian restaurants. However, I would say that it tasted very home... More

I recently visited San Jose area and I thought I would try this restaurant for dinner based on TA reviews. The food is horrible, the dosa batter was sour, the chutney and sambar were prepared in the morning and they were reusing them for dinner.. The adai aviyal is mediocre, once again the same batter was used. The only good... More

I would suggest Komala Vilas for real authentic south Indian meals while in California. The atmosphere is homely and made warm by the staff. I will suggest Komalavilas to all kinds of travelers.

This place has good food, but is over priced for the lack of ambiance. There are better South Indian places to enjoy a meal at in the Bay Area, Worth a visit, but will not be returning.
