Charming

I think the world needs more German Restaurants. Great beer, really awesome warm octogenarian waitstaff (I kid you not), not the best German food I've had but meeting the requirements of the genre, comfortable atmosphere. A good place to go if you crave German food and German Beer. They have a good selection of German and Austrian beer. This is a small place and run by several old ladies so if you want to be served promptly, get there when it opens, otherwise service could be slow. The restaurant is conveniently adjacent to a large... More

Good German restaurants excel at beer, meat and spatsela. This one had good potato soup for starters, then a basic salad. My wife had the lamb and I had the ham special. Both were very good. My serving could have fed several people. It was an enormous portion. Some portions need the outside were a little dried out but there... More

Also right near Murphy Street in downtown Sunnyvale, Hardy's Bavaria is a quaint little German restaurant. The German beers on tap alone is worth a visit. However, the night we went there was a distinct shortage of staff... so we had plenty of time to contemplate what we were going to order. The food was very traditionally prepared so there... More

good for a long social dinner with friends - has a quaint character, extensive beer list, and traditional, unamericanized food. we were here on a quiet night, and the service was fast, without rushing our dinner, which was appreciated (we stayed pretty late).

We decided to check out this German restaurant off Murphy and the Caltrain in Sunnyvale. The guys were in heaven over the great selection of German beers. The gals enjoyed the wine and sunny decor. The food is real homemade German so enjoy the atmosphere till the delectable meal is ready. Freidal is a delight and the service is nice.... More

Hearty German cuisine (think sauerkraut, bratwurst, smoked pork) just minutes from the Sunnyvale Caltrain station. The interiors could probably use a bit of sprucing up. There are a couple of granny serving, so it can be slow but makes up with its warmth and quaint charm. A bit on the pricey side, but the food is delicious as it is... More

Vast selection of German draft beer. Friendly service. The only caveat is that if you want a light lunch, stay away from the mains which are as large as you might expect for a dinner.

Hardy's was my favorite restaurant ever since I can remember (at least 10 years). I've been going there for all my birthdays, celebrations, ect; spending at least $80 for two people at dinner, and $25 takeout for myself during my visits. The staff know my parents by name due to their continual patronage also. To my suprise, I WAS DENIED... More

It's always a good sign to walk into an ethnic restaurant and hear the other patrons speaking the native language of the culture. Such is the case with Hardy's Bavaria in Sunnyvale, and with good reason: The food is the most authentically German that you'll find this side of the Rhine. Hardy's makes spectacular sauerbraten, schweinebraten, kassler rippchen, and even... More
