We were lucky enough to be here during Restaurant Week and tried two of the three course meals offered. Our food was good, service was incredible. We had perfect wine pairings with our food - two excellent local wines. Save room for dessert. Lovely dining room which made for an excellent vacation date night. We will be back the next... More

My wife and I were there in January for her birthday and we had the "Restaurant Week" French fish stew(with some caviar!). I forgot the name but it was scrumptious as was the salad and the flan like desert. Service was great as was the two glasses of wine. $105.50 out the door. Ouch! Price was my only complaint but... We visited Solvang during Santa Ynez Restaurant Week (unbeknowsed to us before we got there), and they were offering several unique 3 course meals. We had the short ribs with ceasar salad, and a really interesting dessert - a "donut" filled with custard and covered with brown sugar and sugar pops. Couldn't try the regular menu items, which sounded great... More

This restaurant was a wonderful find in Solvang. With so much cartoonishly-Danish-with-Swedish-meatballs, Root 246 was a classy standout. It started with a top notch cocktail list. Luxardo! I decided on the martini flight and was given excellent suggestions from our server who asked a few questions before making suggestions. Phenomenal. After that, it was clear that my best course of... We came here on the 24th of December and they have on the menu a full tasting one specially made for christmas. We tried everything on the menu and was very sarisfied with all of the food! A tip though: they often offer discounts for full tasting menus on a special date/event/party in advance so probably a good idea is... More

We stopped by for happy hour and decided to try their price fixed menu. Wow, what a good decision. Only on Tuesday and Wednesday with a limited staff they focus on a limited selection. You can choose several alternatives but don't expect to select something from an extensive menu. That limited choice turned out to be outstanding. We are sure... More

We had dinner reservations and we arrived on time. This restaurant has an impressive bar/lounge area. We were promptly greeted by Jensen. She was attentive and made some recommendations, My husband ordered the 5 spice pgoose and I ordered the steele head trout. Both dishes were fresh and cooked to our liking. The goose was overly salty and I'm not... More

I live in the Santa Ynez Valley and have been to Root 246 several times. Each time I hope it will be better, but it isn't. The atmosphere is classy, but the food doesn't live up to the atmosphere. It's a nice place to eat, but there are better restaurants in the Valley. Some even have better food at a... More

OK... Your are in Solvang and are looking for someplace to eat. I know, Solvang is known for its Scandinavian roots, but you really don't feel like Swedish meatballs or gravlax. Well, if you really want a treat, the Route 246 is the place! If you have my other reviews, you probably see that I travel a bit. I must... More
