Decent food, but really standard California Mexican fare. I'd have no problem eating here again, but to me it's no different than any other standard California Mexican place. Margarita's are fine, but from a mix. Many places do it better these days.

I've been going to Fidel's in Solana Beach since the 1970's. Since then, I've traveled many miles and eaten a lot of Mexican food, but Fidel's is still my all time favorite. I especially enjoy their soups: Albondigas, Fideo, and Chicken and Rice. All are delicious as is my other favorite menu item, cabbage salad. Of course they have the... More

People love Fidel's. it is funky, has been around forever, and is inexpensive. I have always felt the food is so, so, and there are other places I would rather dine.

What can you say about your favorite? Many memories, many seatings, intimate other, family and friends. Over the years we've ranged over the menu appreciating regional favorites and developed personal favorites. The service is always good. Indoor and out the atmosphere is completely and pleasingly Mexican! They can handle large parties. Again, some favorites, the carnitas, the green tomatillo sauce,... More

Whatever you choose on the Fidel's menu is no doubt going to be out of this world, INCREDIBLE. Atmosphere is great, the waiter's and waitresses are friendly and the food is the best. I always bring family and friends here and we all leave with plenty of leftovers (the portions are large) Prices are a little bit high, however, the... More

I'm sure that whatever catches your fancy from Fidel's menu will please your palate. The cuisine is Mexican favorites. What we go to Fidel's for (over and over) is the Tostada Suprema -- we really like the chicken version with lots of great breast meat, but the beef variety is also a big hit with chunks of shredded beef galore.... Totally random location right up the highway from Carlsbad. Food was great. Drinks were great. Authentic, but not so much so that you didn't know what you were eating

We have been to this restaurant every time we travel to this area. This recent visit however now has us searching for a different Mexican restaurant. Though the atmosphere is still very appealing and the service very good, the food and drinks were no where near what they had been in past years. The "perfect" margarita was far from perfect.... I stopped by Fidel's on a solo trip to Del Mar, CA. The restaurant has a nice exterior, as well as great Mexican art as you walk inside. That's where the "good" part ends. There was no hostess, and the servers were all running around. I was seated by a server who appeared quite busy. It took a few minutes... More

its a bit of an inside joke with us as when my family from vancouver go to visit my kid sister who lives in del mar, we insist on fidel's, which she hates. its not as though vancouverite's don't get authentic mexican but our selection is not as good as it is with, say, sushi joints. historically we've enjoyed fidel's....
