Old School Mexican Food!

This is not baja fresh, salad food! This is good old school Mexican food. They do not have salsa but "sauce" which is great on chips and your food. Order "Diablo" sauce for extra extra spice. Restaurant is a fun old place with many nooks, rooms to sit in and a sunken outdoor patio which is great in... read more

This place is a classic in Solana Beach. It's been around for ages (since the 60's) and a great local hangout. Good house margaritas! My favorite dishes are the chicken salad (wish the chicken came warm instead of cold) and the cauliflower casserole. They offer your typical Mexican dishes and you will enjoy the atmosphere! Sometimes there may be a... More

I have been eating at Fidel's for over forty (40) years! The only changes I've seen in that time are personnel and a few cosmetic renovations. That's the good news, because the food has maintained a level of consistency throughout that time, it's quality ingredients, it is generous portions, excellent service and reasonable prices! That has made me a repeat... More

We visit this place with our friends every time we are in San Diego. It's our favorite. Great food, great atmosphere, great margaritas and a great place to bring the kids too. Definitely worth the wait.

For a Mexican restaurant that's been there for so many years, you would think they would have better food and service. The chicken in my enchilada had turned bad. Only good thing was chili rellano. No hot sauce. Ketchup with pepper flakes. Yuck.

It's interesting that the two Mexican places in Solana are next door- We prefer the other. Fidel's had great friendly service, yummy food( esp the tamales) but it was just too oily and heavy.

Fidel's was recommended to me by my brother. He lived in San Diego for many years, so when I came to visit my daughters and their families, it was where I suggested we try. Nice atmosphere, but I'll never listen to my brother again. My dinner was a 2 on the 1-10 scale. The chicken was way over cooked and... More
