Best carne asada

Upon a friend's recommendation, we went to Fidel's in 1976 and found the little beach town of Solana Beach and we moved here from the Bay Area. We have been going to Fidels for birthdays and other celebrations since our sons were babies and they are now over 40! We've seen the restaurant grow from the little room where Fidel's... More

Don't use chicken breast and no ground beef option. Never understood that. Just not that great but good atmosphere.

We love this place - but went on a Friday night - and they had over reached their ability to maintain standards. Still, a favorite.

There are few "family owned restaraunts" for over 50 years but this is one of the rare exceptions! Fedels has been in the same family, 4 or 5 generations for over 50 years. Great, authentic & traditional mexican food is served here that has has been a "Solana Beach dining staple" as long as the Restaurant been around. If you... More

From the outside this Mexican restaurant appears to be a rambling series of buildings that have been connected over time. In the inside this transforms to a series of medium sized dining areas which makes for a great casual dining experience. The food was authentic, plentiful, and delicious. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Highly recommended.

Great, authentic food, chips and salsa tasty. They have all the standard Mexican entrees and sides as well as unique special dishes as well. Service is inconsistent, sometimes really good and quick, other times very, very slow. Fidels is my first choice for Mexican food in San Diego.

I used to go to Fidel's at least once a week, their food was always consistently good, now it is less reliable. I always loved the Carnitas Plate and the half suprema, unfortunately the food was recently delivered to me cold, they forgot to bring it out! This used to be the go to place in Solana Beach, I do... In a town where authentic Mexican food is on every corner Fidel's is surely one of a kind. Great food. Good service. If you've never been you have no idea what you're missing. They are very generous with their portions. Our family loves this place. We've been regulars for 20 years! Still my favorite!!!

Not advisable to drive after 2 margaritas at Fidels. I ordered the bottom margarita (the most expensive one in the menu) and was not disappointed. Again, I wish I wasn't driving home. The place was surprisingly big. Downstairs appear to be the restaurant area and upstairs, the bar area. I was at the bar and had 2 tacos -- carnitas... More
